Inside Pool Mag hacked

----I posted this as an alert to this site. I really didnt think it would lead to verbal b#!ch slapping back and forth.
----I didnt catch the AZconunsur. The good thing about ameture hackers is that they generally dont have a series of bogus ip and server addresses set up to throw off thier trail. Thier home ip can be traced.
----If it is a hacker that posts on this site it could lead to an escalation if there are members on the other site that are accomplished hackers. Everybody knows somebody. It is easy enough for a group of hackers to plant BOTs in 1000's of computers and highjack them for the purpose of a DNS attack. Just hope there isnt a hacker out there at the moment that is pissed off. It can get real nasty.

----As for the woes of mircosoft os's. I use Mac. I got tired of forematting and installing. Having firewalls, antivirus and about 10 redundancy programs running to keep my computer in stealth mode as well as to keep spam, spyware and god knows what else off it was rediculous.

I am new to AZ Billiards and the truth is, I haven't posted on InsidePoolMag's site yet but I plan to. I like their site too. But being a newcomer, I must admit that I am not familiar with all of this back-and-forth about which site is better.

But it does seem BEYOND clear that the name 'Azkonusur' seems like a direct reference to the fact that the hacker is A) AZ loyalist and B) NOT very good at hiding it.

Now ScottW, I don't know you from Adam but it seems to me that you are brushing off the obvious here. While I may not know much about the war going on between the two, I have to admit... this doesn't look good for the AZ community if they have a rogue hacker in their midst who will go around destroying competitor sites. JMO.

I understand you are new here and there, as we all were at one time or another. So here is some great advice if you want to take it. Stay out of these kinds of threads. Enjoy the rest of both places and have fun. This stuff is for the people who need the drama and the desire to flame and battle. Both places have great things to offer and you should enjoy the good parts of that, otherwise all you will get from the pool forums is a bad taste in your mouth. These places deserve better than that.

Very true. Well said.

It wasn't me. JWilliams can testify to the fact that I am a computer moron. Obviously, JR and his buddies are too if they left themself open for this to happen.

But I still think it is ok to laugh about it.

Fortunately, JR lets you register with a fake email address with no confirmation required so I am safe on what John Barton warned about.

You're "new here" but you know EXACTLY what's going on already! Wow. Impressive!

"AZkonosur" as a name - hm - I suppose you missed a couple of lines before that where the folks who did the hack LISTED THEIR NICKNAMES. But, obviously, since the first two lines of the message are in English, the third MUST be English as well! Despite the fact it's obviously NOT English and there's several odd characters in it that are not used in English words. Or the fact that "AZ" was actually "Az", as in a foreign-language word and not an acronym in all-caps..

Here's a tin foil hat for you. Enjoy it!

I so agree. My next box will be a Mac primarily for this reason. I just tried Linux for 2 weeks and I was happy when it ran and totally lost when it didn't update itself right and it stopped booting. At this point in my life I don't have the time to learn how to program my OS so it's a Mac for me next time.

I also hope that that no one from this board has done this to IPM. I still maintain however that it illustrates the issues with running a board and the need to keep it secure.

I don't think this thread, at least it wasn't your intention and not the way I took it, was an us vs. them thing.

And Scott, for me it's not an us vs. them thing. Just because I don't care for JR's crookedness and Jim's hypocrisy doesn't mean I think the people there besides those two aren't great overall.

John, I don't know what "distribution" of LINUX that you tried, but if you start a thread in
the NPR section, I will assist folks. Technically, LINUX is just the kernel. You do not need
to know how to program anything in order to use it.

John, I understand your reaction because you are all about flaming IP, which is what this thread is about.

If you want to support bs threads like this, go ahead. If I want to poke fun at these threads that are simply IP flames, and useless to pool discussion, then I will do so.

That's what makes a horse-race....Dude

How is a post about a security issue at another board a flame? If something like this happened to me I'd post it to all related boards that I am a member of.

Of course, you can do what you want. I have no power over you and how you choose to spend your time and energy. If you consider fanning the flames to be "poking fun" then I would suggest that perhaps it's yourself who has been drinking a little too much of Jimbo's brand of Kool Aid.

Because that is EXACTLY his intention for even being on the internet. He has stated it time and time again that his only pleasure is to needle and fight for fun. So if you are doing the same then you are definitely cut from the same cloth. I didn't and still don't get that vibe from you.

Really?

Really? I just get a blank page, if I try to bring up the forums. Not that it affects my day at all,
as I have only posted over there once, to correct some erroneous information in a Grady
Mathews article.

Thanks Whitey. I used Ubuntu Edgy Eft. I chose it because it seemed to be the easiest to get going for all the tools I need. And it worked well until I chose to install the 160 updates and it crashed near the end. At that point it wouldn't reboot, not even using the CD so I could reinstall Grub. I couldn't get Flash to install no matter what I tried.

I really like the OS better than Windows. And while you are correct that I needn't really "program" anything there are several things that need to be done through the command line which require knowledge of the proper syntax which I lack.

Donovan-
You are quite correct and this is some remarkable advice. I will likely follow it. I am a newbie here but not to forums. And though from time to time, I like to express an opinion here and there, sometimes you have to know when to share that opinion.

Again, I like both forums as there is a wealth of knowledge on each. I plan to frequent both and hope to make some good friends there too.

And ScottW, please understand that I hold you in the highest regard as you have given me no reason to do anything but. While we may disagree on the subject, perhaps we can agree to do so respectfully.

Kind Regards,
Hurly
