I have been playing pool for almost 15 years now, and I feel I need to find some good direction to help me reach the next level. I am a pretty strong player, but I want to improve more. I am looking for the best DVD set out there to help me improve my game. I have looked at Mika's and Max Eberle's, and I don't know which one is better. I am looking for a set that has lots of good drills to work on, and maybe help with my fundamentals. I know that they are the most important part of my game. I have a very solid foundation, but it can always improve. So I am asking for any input on these DVD's, or any others out there that would help me out. Thanks in advance for the help!

It sounds like you've identified what parts of the game you want to work on....

A freind of mine wanted to work on his bank game ... and for that Freddy's stuff is the NUTZ. He is now an outstanding banker!!!!

For anyone who does not have Bob Byrnes Vol 1 and 2 .
I feel it is great informational based material. A lot of info nuggets in
there. It has little to do with aiming or mechanical foundations.
It does have content that may NEVER come up in conversation.

I have Mika's DVD's and I would not recommend them for you. While you can learn things, the way the DVD is presented is very impersonal and not very dense. I have never used or heard of Max Eberle's tapes but if you are looking for a drill based set Mastering Pool is not for you..

PAT vids are outstanding IMO.

Not very dense? The Mika DVDs have more information crammed in them than any other series on the market, almost 10 fold. They are reviewed by all the major publications as the best instructional series to date.

I do agree however that they are not ideal for what you're looking for. Nor will Max's, nor will Byrnes. In fact, I really doubt that any instructional DVD out there will give you much passed an "advanced" level.

This however is a good suggestion in regards to what you're looking for. It's not instructional, but rather drills and a self-assessment series.

When I said "dense" I meant instructions. The DVD is very light on instruction, it gets right to the point and doesn't offer much juice behind the shots.

Of the video's I've seen, the one I got the most out of and have recommended time and again is Bert Kinister's 60 Minute Workout. It is shown on the barbox but if you do the drills on the 9' you'll get to where you want to be.

Instructional DVDs

Of the ones I have watched
Bob Byrnes
Bert Kinnister and Joe Tucker
If you are not a top flight kicker, get Gradys tapes , you will be.
If you don't learn enough from those to pay for them you are already a great player and probably need to latch onto a high level pro for a year to get much better.
I just ordered Scott Frosts DVDs and I am expecting some great things from him also. His is mostly geared toward 1 Pocket though I think.

What they said. Trust me, the list of players that Bert has worked with and still works with is silly.

Everything is now downloadable on his site. He is an excellent teacher and a great person.

Bert Kinisters On-Demand-Videos.

The star patterns and mighty X are really good. There's a ton of information and advanced drills for the serious player.

Let me take the time to say thank you to everyone for their input with this. I live in an area where there really aren't any good billiard coaches, so I thought that something like these DVD's would help me out. I will check out some of the recommendations I have heard about here. I am also thinking of going down to Stan Shuffett's place for some lessons as soon as I get a chance. Let him take a look at what I can do, and help me go from there. I have heard great things from Stan, and I have seen results from what he has done with other great players. I am just a player who loves this game, and really wants to be the best I can be. I am willing to do what it takes to be an amazing player, and continue to get better.
