Let's say that you get a problem with your shoulder, and that you will no longer be able to play pool anymore.

I guess (hope) pro-players do have such insurance, since it is their living, but what about us bangers?

For me, pool is a hobby that I find much pleasure in. If I could no longer play pool the quality of my life would not be the same, and lots of $$ from an insurance company wouldn't repair the damage, but it would definitely help me trying to forget

Lloyds of London will insure anything for a PRICE, and sometimes the PRICE is VERY LARGE.

Disability insurance is readily available for purchase for self-employed people, and pro pool players qualify as that. Still, I highly doubt that more than a few in the history of the sport have ever purchased such insurance.

Purchasing disability insurance to cover the contingency that one will have to give up a beloved hobby is a completely new idea to me, but I would imagine it's possible. I've never heard of this being done.

sjm is correct here. I've had disability insurance on myself since I purchased Jack White's tour 14 years ago. It is VERY doubtful that any (or at least VERY few) pro players have this kind insurance. You are required to prove your income, and then you pay a premium based on what percentage of your proven income you want to have insurance for. Even so, no insurance company will pay disability forever. Most policies have term limits. Oh. and take it from me, the premiums ain't cheap!
