Interesting cue

I was checking out Vintage cues on Ebay and came across this.

What makes this cue so interesting to me is I saw the same model cue yesterday in Denver. The elderly man who owned it said he bought it new in the 60's and he said it was a Viking. When he bought it he had a choice between a Palmer and Viking and liked the looks of the Viking better.

I told him that it had been made from a Titlist blank which he had no idea of and showed him one of mine.

The description of the cue in the link above states a Doc Fry cue that someone added dots too. I believe these dots were not added later because the cue I saw yesterday was identical.

My question is Doc Fry or Viking or sumpen else?

I will try and post pics of the Denver cue ASAP.

PS. The Denver cue had maker ID on it.

That sure narrows it down to a dozen or more so every Saturday morning at Felt.
 
The cue was originally listed as a Viking. The buyer, who is the current seller, apparently negotiated a deal and the auction ended early. He got the cue for something like $150. I'll check my records when I am on my PC.

I detest people ending auctions early.

Anyway, it was originally listed as an early Viking.
 
The earliest Vikings are not in the catalogs, arguably they are not Viking cues anyway. They would be Gordon Hart cues I guess.

Vikings are well known to be marked since very early. I have a Viking Titlist conversion made about 1967, it is clearly marked as a Viking. It looks nothing like this cue.

This cue is very interesting. That's all I'll say at the moment. I was a bidder in the original auction. Not any more.
 
Jayman knows a lot about early Viking cues. Maybe he will chime in.

For the record I did not think this was a Viking. But I didn't think it was what is now claimed either.
 
Not a Doc Frye. Would bet on it. Does not look close to a DF.

Early cue, Titlist forearm, possibly ivory ferrule, though a bit damaged. But, one nice find for whoever.

I was able to get a couple of pics yesterday although they are not the greatest. There was no marking on the cue but it did have a old style Viking pin. The owners first name was Victor and I hope to run into him again and give him an update from this thread. He did assure me that this cue was a early Viking.

Whom ever got the cue in the link that was posted after mine stole it. These cues are super cool and well made from what I saw.

Strange things about that seller. Has a feedback history of 1, yet been a member since 2009 and currently 190 listings.

What am I missing?

When I first found that ad, the cue was the only thing he had for sale, and he had zero feedback.

Now it looks like his account may have been hacked.
 
I just missed this cue when it was first on ebay. I believe it had a buy now price. I did not think it was a viking either, but liked the look. after looking around the net I thought it might be an early Fred Mali cue, but I guess it was a Viking.

That is the same seller and same cue as the eBay listing. He isn't a member of AZ, but is aware of this thread and has updated the description in the listing.

"On Aug-12-18 at 18:59:37 PDT, seller added the following information:

Please note this may or may not be Doc Fry I have not had it authenticated it was just what I was told so please bid accordingly as it may be an unknown maker."
