Interview with Jose Amang Parica!

With all the praise heaped on Efren and all of the new Filipino blood in pool, it's somewhat easy to forget the contributions of Jose.

There ought to be more threads about this guy on AZB. He is pool royalty.

IMHO, Jim Murnak produces the best series of pool interview videos. Preserving the current slice of pool for future generations.
 
I never understood the real pronunciation of these names... I mean Parica calls Efren "Epren" and even Efren calls himself that way, but they also say "Pilippines". Is the real pronunciation "Epren Reyes" or the philippines don't have the "ph" phoneme?
 
I could be wrong, differences in tonal inflection could be attributed to tagalog patois.
 
How does this guy not make it to the HOF. Half the inductees are stiffs next to Jose.

The way the interview was done was kinda refreshing to me.
If we could have a part 2 - a ton of questions need to be answered!

That reminds me how I went to my friend's house early one morning and his mom, being from the Philippines, asked me, "Do you want some 'breakpast'? Some 'Prosted Plakes'?" :D
 
I've noticed Jose doesn't give Efren much respect...

One time years back at a pro tournament I was talking to Jose and asking him questions and I brought up Efren and he got very defensive all of a sudden...and claimed he would beat Efren for money.

Looking back now I think Jose probably felt a bit of resentment for all of the attention Efren got when he came on the scene.

Jose should definitely be in the HOF.

I agree, except I'd take it further and say Jose could spot almost, if not all of the HoF players. He was the best cash game player in the last 40 years.

Love the interview. We're lucky here on the West Coast that Jose plays in many of the small tournaments - so we get a chance to see him in action nd even play him. We can learn a lot from Jose because he is so creative.

hi,

Originally, the Philippine alphabet (abakada) did not include the letters c, f, j, q, v, x, and z. It was later revised to include the said letters plus ch, ll, ñ, rr. That's why older pinoys pronounce f and v as p and b.
