Interview with the late NY Blackie

I just posted my interview with the late NY Blackie on OnePocket.org.

This interview took place back on May 5th, 2005, when Blackie was living in Florida. I had always hoped to follow up with Blackie, but that didn't happen, and unfortunately he died August 15, 2007. Al Bonife, better known as 'NY Blackie', was a real straight shooter and an astute game maker. He was a long-time friend of Buddy Hall, and he also spent time in California with 'Little Al' Romero. Both Buddy Hall and Al Romero have been kind enough to add some of their own reminiscences of Blackie which are included in the interview.

Very nice interview with Blackie. I never heard any of Al Romero's background.. also very cool. Thank you.

Thank you so much for posting this. I am going straight there but wanted to make sure I thanked you before going there. Blackie was a unique individual, a genuine pool character who lived here in New Orleans for many years. I have told the story of him telling me to give Buddy a message at one of the pool tournaments I attended. (He wanted me to tell Buddy he was ready to move back in with him. :D :D ) I don't want to re-tell the story but it always makes me smile.

Steve, I just read your interview with Blackie. Nice job! Too bad you didn't get to do a follow-up with him.

BTW, you are really accumulating a terrific body of work there on OnePocket.org. Anyone interested in the history of the game will find a gold mine on your site and it will just get better and better as the years and the interviews keep piling up. You've really done a service to the game.
