Me and the 'Ol Lady (btw, she doesn't mind me callin' her this) were shootin' some 8-ball the other night. Now, keep in mind that I have been puttin' a pretty good whoopin' on her lately at the home table (as I should 'cause I practice about 3 hours a day on it while she's at work
). Anyway, I'm up on her about 7 games to 2. I'm already startin' to get the under-her-breath name callin'. I break and run on her. She does the eye-roll thing then gets out of her chair and racks 'em up for me again (she's gettin' pretty good at rackin'
). I break, make a couple of balls and proceed to run up to the eight-ball. Whitey is in the center of the table. The 8-ball is about an inch away from the long rail, unobstructed, about a dot and a half away from the corner pocket. I've made this shot consistently for most of my natural-born life. I'm ONE easy shot from a 2-pack in 8-ball, which will be my FIRST EVER. I glance up at my wife, who at this time is starin' me square in the eyes with a look on her face that is saying "if you sink this shot sucker, you ain't gettin' lucky for a damn LONG TIME". So I start mulling my options. I figure if I go ahead and make the shot, she's gonna eventually give in and fall prey to my romantical nature
. So, silently, I decide to slam dunk the 8 and get my first ever 2-pack. Problem was, when I bent over the shot, I just wasn't completely confident that my romantical nature was gonna get me out of this one. With my confidence low and my wife glarin' a hole through the back of my head, I stroked the shot and "jawed" the ball in the corner pocket. In effect, I was completely intimidated by my 'Ol Lady (did I mention she is an ex-Marine
). No 2-pack for me. I guess I'm gonna hafta try and pull one off in some competition at the local poolhall. The good news is, all is WELL in the Metz household
!!!
Maniac
P.S. I really did try and make the shot.
