Hey y'all,
My name's Gary Chin, I'm a documentary filmmaker and student living in Ithaca, NY for the next few years.
Recently, I directed and produced a short documentary (19 minutes) titled "The Cuemaker". It's about my friend and mentor, 64 year old Dana Paul. He does cue repair out of Ithaca and occasionally builds cues; I found him fascinating and decided to do a documentary on him.
After spending months getting to know Dana, I've learned that he really is the most interesting man in the world (to me, at least). He originally started as an automobile mechanic, and was named the top ranked automobile mechanic in the U.S. He is familiar with precision machining and also works on coffee tampers as a side job.
I wanted to share this new release with AZbilliards and hopefully get it started. Reviews are going to be written by Charlie Williams, Max Eberle, Stevie Moore, Darren Appleton, and Biboy Soriano.
If I had to say two last things, it would be to read the director's note on my website for the film. This isn't a technical documentary on how to make cues, but on a friendship and mentorship that developed from this relationship, of playing pocket billiards in a college town.
The website for my film is: http://thecuemaker.bigcartel.com
The Facebook page for my film is: http://www.facebook.com/TheCuemaker
Thank you for reading and if you have any questions feel free to PM me or send me an e-mail at gchin92@gmail.com.
