Re: the tournament room photo - how many tables did they have set up with overhead cams and matching hanging flatscreens? From that photo it looks like eight. And were the "TV tables" two of those, or separate?

There were 8 tables (I think) with cameras and plasma screens. The two “TV” tables were separate with bleachers. You can kinda see the setup in the photo. The tables with cameras are in the foreground and the two TV tables are under the big blue UFO.

Linda, I adore your pictures, and the one of me and Keith is GREAT. Thanks so much for sharing. Even though I'm here, I love seeing these. Keep 'em coming.

When I get home, I'll have a few I'm going to share as well. I haven't brought my camera downstairs with me as often as I'd like, but I have snapped a few cool ones too.

I kind of want to leave NOW because of my work back in D.C., but Keith says he wants to stay and support the tour, which sounds logical, but then again, I know that Keith is in his element here in Vegas with all of the ACTION. We are driving back home via Kingman, Arizona, an alternate route than the one in which we came. Utah and all of its desolate land is quite scary, and I'm going to drive back the same route as Gabe's mom did. Plus, we can stop and see the famous Hoover Dam and then there's Tennessee, one of my favorite States.

Last night, we watched the local news here in Vegas, and they covered the IPT in the sports section. We were at the Rio when it was going to be aired at precisely 11:20 p.m. We literally ran what seemed like a mile and a half to get to a bar which had a TV. The bartender accommodated us and put the TV channel on Channel 8, the local news. They got clips of The Color of Money and showed Grady Seasons of 1985 and Keith McCready of 2006, and it was incredible. Everybody at the bar at the Rio was watching it, thanks to Keith yelling out, "Hey, that's me, Doll Face." He also was wearing the same clothes he had on when they recorded it. Keith was grinning from ear to ear after we watched the video clip, and it was a great tribute not only to him as a pool player, but it also promoted the IPT. We're getting a DVD of this segment, and I can't wait to watch it again. As we left the bar, Keith quietly said to me, "You know, I can't believe it's been 20 years now. I sure was a good-looking son of a gun." :p

What a great story, Jennie. You must really be proud of your man. It's been a hell of a week so far, hasn't it? I too need to get some work done, but it is too tough!!!

Was that national or just local CBS that did the interveiw with Keith. That's a great story Jam. make sure you stop in Kingman and give Rudedog our best wishes. Actually I would imagine he's probably been up to see the IPT

I loved hearing that story too Jennie. Keith would have embraced every minute I'm sure. I sooo wish I could have been there to see it.

Glad to hear that you met Brian (Saleh). I met Brian a week before IPT at Pat Holtz's (Pot Holden) house for the first time and found him to be a very friendly and enthusiastic person. We played a few racks and, in-between, Brian would take time to show me kick-shot techniques he'd learned as well as banking systems etc. As well as being a naturally skilled player, Brian has the ability to learn and remember every technique he's taught. One to watch IMO.

And a really nice guy.

Say 'Hi' to Brian and Pat from Blue Suede, if you see them, and pass on my best regards to both. And to yourself and Keith. Hope I'll meet you both in London - (if you're really unlucky!).

I am posting pics I have taken so far. Most of my memories are on videotape and I am more than willing to put them up on Youtube, if someone can help me get them onto my computer and under the limit of 100mb. When I plug in my camcorder, I expect a download box to pop up, or some software, and it doesn't. The manual just says to plug it in. Can someone help me? It is a Canon ZR 700. Colin said he would try to help me tonight.

Some of these pics are blurry, but they were taken with a 48x zoom and there is a lot of traffic between tables, especially with the referees. If the subject moves at all, then it will be blurry. But I thought you might enjoy them, blurry or not.

Please help me with naming a lot of these players. I just don't know who they are!!! Their name tags are usually too far away and I can't read them.

Uh-oh, looks like I need to resize them all from 800 mb. :(

This first one is from the player's meeting. It is the banquet table. Of course that was the most important shot! :p

Linda,

When it comes to pictures taken from the digital camera, always take them at the highest resolution, you can always back them down for posting on the internet but you always want a raw file so you can manipulate it the way you want to later. You can resize the pics to something like 800 x 600 for posting to the web. Most people have that as a minimum screen resolution so it should all fit in their screen. Dont' forget when you resize the, change the name so you keep the original at the highest resolution. Maybe rename them to something like *name800.jpg to let you know these are at 800 x 600.

As far as your camcorder, you have to think of this. When it comes off the camcorder it's in a raw format such as .avi. It takes alot of hard drive space for this.

At best quality a single sided 4.7GB DVD holds just under 2 hours of video. To make a 2hr DVD is going to require a very large amount of disk space. Here is a little math exercise that will explain just how much storage you will be needing.

If you are starting with DV footage, you need 13GB per hour of video.
This means a 2 hour DVD is 2 x 13 =26GB of footage.
Add in the extra unused footage and it's more like 3 x 13 = 39GB.
Figure that you'll be adding some extra graphics and audio tracks. Let's say another 2GB for these.
Now you need room for the MPEG2 footage for the DVD, that's 4.7GB more.
If you plan on creating the DVD in a folder first (we recommend this) that's another 4.7GB.
Add it all up and it comes to over 50GB of high speed video storage to make a 2 hour DVD!

Most camcorder software tries to re-encode the video from it's native DV format to mpeg 2 on the fly. But that does not allow you to edit it when you have it on your hard drive. Otherwise you have to re-encode it again because it re-encoded it on the fly in the first place.. It's best to save all the footage to your machine, edit it and chop it up into little chunks so you can easily put it all together and then decide what you want to post it to the Internet with. DIVx may offer the best compression, and you need to decide how big the window is... the smaller the window size the smaller the video size.... Also the frames per second. It's not easy to make a good video, but most people can throw together something that is sub par thru the software that comes with the camcorder. It comes in thru a Firewire or USB port. Here is a review of your camera so it does come with some video editing software.

The Canon ZR700 does come with a digital video solutions disc that can run on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. The software did not initially install and it was necessary to take ten minutes to read the installation help me guide to solve this installation driver snafu. Once the PC was reconfigured, this basic software package took between fifteen and twenty minutes to fully install which is definitely far longer than 2006 software offerings by manufacturers like Sony and Panasonic that loaded easily in a reasonable period of time. This software program will allow for basic image editing of both stills and video footage. Viewing images can be done either as single or multi-up formats and users can select a series of images or video clips for editing or composing a larger work. Digital effects can be applied to video and still images and while not advanced like Photoshop or Avid the editing features will at least be a simple starting point for beginning users. Video files can be exported from the digital video solutions program for future viewing outside of this Canon program. Sony's Picture Package software and Panasonic's Motion DVStudio were both easier to install, and had no trouble recognizing the camcorder as soon as it was connected.

Good luck, but always keep your DV tape with the footage you shot, because it will be in it's pristine format and can be converted into something nice later. Don't ever erase it !

Thank you all

Linda, Jam, and others.....
Thank you for the nice pictures....for those of us here who can't be there, these pictures really transport some of the atmosphere to us....along with the news, match results, statistics, I am very grateful to all you at AZB who contribute to this fan's curiosity as to what is going on over there.....Thanks again.....

If you come around my neck of the woods on your trip let me know. I would like to meet you, and I am sure there many people here that would be happy to see Keith again. Keith may not remember me but he put a couple of tournament beatings on me at Berle's place when he was here.

Good luck on your trip home.

Linda, did your camcorder come with a software CD? And if so, did you install the software on the computer you've got with you?

It may well just be a Firewire thing too - and it may be that your computer's drivers aren't working properly (i.e. not recognizing the external device when you plug it up).

Try plugging it in, and then fire up Windows Explorer (the way you dig around your hard drives/folders) and see if there's a new device (after C:, D:, etc) that is your camcorder's storage. Also try plugging it up to your computer, then do a reboot and see if that helps too.

Yes, I have the software loaded and there was not a new device listed. I knew to check that because some of my digital cameras do that. I will work on this when
I return home.
