IPT Rumors Confirmed: London Cancelled - IPT Sold

I hope that the International Pool Tour remains international. It would suck if the tour based it self in asia making it difficult for anyone from any other part of the world to make it on the tour. That's one of the reasons the brits have dominated snooker for so long most of the ranking events are based in the UK

I wonder if the payouts will remain the same as well. That is another initial concern I have. We don't need another tour that only pays $10,000 per stop.

Bah! I missed the deleted post. Darn it!

In any event, what's the point of jumping on Blackjack's nutz because he spoke too soon? Everybody jumps the gun sometimes. No big deal. He made a quick yet flawed judgment. He doesn't have to apologize for that.

As for the Anti-Ho arguments (lol, that sounds funny)...Ho, if what Blackjack has claimed about him is true, is MORALLY no different than KT. That's right. If Ho runs porn and a cocaine cartel - he's really no different than KT who is nothing more than a snakeoil salesman. KT tricks desperate and dumb people into buying things that do not work, which is kinda/sorta fraud, which is kinda/sorta theft. He gets away with it only because people *should* know better. That's no different than a casino owner saying gamblers should know their limits. Bottom line - they are involved in predatory businesses.

I don't think anyone will care in the long run. The pool players will worship whomever keeps the big-bucks flowing, and most fans will be oblivious to the politics of it all and will love the IPT for the high-quality DVD's and quality pool.

As far as the whole China thing..well, even if the IPT went totally overseas - it would still greatly benefit the U.S. players to make a career over there making great money than being bums over here playing in crappy $5,000 tournaments.

KT saying that he'll be with the IPT for 5 years as commissioner is merely a way to legitimize the sale of the IPT. I believe this sale is going to take place later on, or is based on contingency. I'd bet that KT had no intention whatsoever of announcing the IPT sale this early in the IPT, but felt it would be a big-news counter balance to the London event cancellation.

If they had problems with the Excel - fine...but to make terrorism excuses? HOW ABSURD. That, in my opinion, seriously damages the credibility of the IPT. When they have to stoop to blaming terrorism, it leads me to believe they are hiding something. About a dozen other major sports have ZERO problem going to England, what's the IPT's difficulty?

Didn't KT say a while ago that he had sold 49% of the IPT?

Is this Mr Ho buisness a red-herring to deflect attention from the fact that they just cancelled a Tourny for NO REASON? Who-knows.

Elimination of the London event, reducing the IPT 2006 Schedule to three events, means that Ronnie O'Sullivan's no-show in Reno is far more likely to cost him his IPT tour card than before.

However, the cancellation of the London event doesn't mean anything for Ronnie O'Sullivan since he already had withdrawn from the London event due to the Snooker Grand Prix in Scotland at the same time, which by the way will be sent live at Eurosport that week. Actually it is even better for him that the London event got cancelled, because then he has better chances for staying at the tour since the other Tourmembers don't get the advantage of playing one more tournament!

Why would someone buy the IPT? It's got 0 history, 0 brand recognition. You can start another tour and the players will come. What the hell is this guy Ho thinking?

That is a great point. Ho could've had his own tour with more prize money and everyone would have jumped off ship of the IPT.

Thats the whole point, a) I seriously doubt he paid 150 million to KT, and b) at present the tour has no assets!

He could spend $20m and have his own tour, all the players would jump ship in a heartbeat.

You got to give it to KT, he sure knows how to spin it. Now why did LONDON get cancelled again?

London got cancelled because of terroism. There was no way to ship the tables into the country at this time due to fear that their might be explosives or terroists themselves hidden inside them.

I suppose perhaps what the IPT does have in its favour is that TV contracts have already been negotiated. If someone were to start a whole new tour from scratch then they would have to deal with all of that I suppose and most of the channels that were willing to show pool would already be showing IPT coverage and might not want to touch the new tour.

Wow, how's that for speculation- yes I DO know that's all this is!

Geez, that sucks, what a bummer. Just bad luck on KTs part nothing he could have done about it. Thanks for clearing that up.

I think Vegas and Reno will be mortal lock reguliar stops.I also hope they do a tourney for those on the east Coast.
As far as TV goes nothing will change as the USA TV scene for pool has been generally poor anyways. In Canada they show more pool, however, none of it is live.

I think buying an IPT membership($29 anually and 6 per month) to watch the matches live online is the way to go for the hardcore North American pool fan. It's a good way to support the IPT and stay connected.

I agree ! But TV may change, Being the brilliant business man he is! As we both know, money makes everything what it is or isn't. If he chooses (which I believe he will) to make pool a big money event, north america etc.. will not be left out! EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE PART OF THE IN CROWD!!

Yes, some exciting news. Also, when OLN turns into Versus, it is owned by Comcast and they are throwing their considerable muscle into promoting pool and the NAO will be on in primetime, I believe Sat. or Sun. nights.

The KOH was the #1 show when it ran and OLN was very happy with the results. OLN and Eurosport are paying the IPT for the rights and not the other way around.

Because of this TV success, the IPT has over 100 proposals for sponsorship. They took up Vonage and Dish network for this one and of course the infusion of $150M by Mr. Ho is great news. Does that mean we are all Ho's now? :p

I taped the player's meeting and can't remember it all. The video feed is going to be high quality professional video, not fuzzy, tiny static-y. So if you pay now, you will be able to catch the streaming video live on Thursday.

JAM, I wish you were here. The venue is even classier than the Venetian, and everyone gets their cornermen this time...altho I don't have one...yet!
L.M.A.O. Good one! We're all HO's we just have a new PIMP now!

If I was 85 years old, living in China & had 8.5 billion the last thing on my mind would be to spend a lousy 150 million to buy a pool tour. This guy Ho must smoke some good opium.
To a man that has every material thing he could ever want, except world wide publicity. Just think every pool oriented household will know his name! How many of us actually heard of mr.Ho till now? And the saying goes every rich man wants to be richer! So there are several possibilities, time will tell

Things are getting tough!

Man things are getting bad. Explosive heals, Explosive hair gels and now explosive slate beds. The whole world is conspiring to hold KT down.
Nick:rolleyes:

No wonder he's getting out

Looks like KT is involved for five more years and the IPT has a new influx of backup! You know who you are - lost the bet and can send me my money.

LMAO
