IPT: Too many, too soon?

I was wondering why KT thought it necessary to hold several tournaments with huge payouts all in one year. I think it would have been sufficient for the IPT to have had one, or at the most two, tournaments in a year. I mean, the opportunity to win $500,000 in prize money is already enough for most pool players to practice hard and participate to the fullest.

Had he gone this route it would have lent more credibility to the tournament, kinda like the WPC or the US Open. Plus, it would have been easier to manage and more marketable. By going the route of the PGA tour with several competitions in a year, he put a huge strain on his finances and organization. Correct me if i'm wrong, but pro basketball, football, hockey, and baseball do not have several tournaments in a year. They just have one championship in a given year and it gives whoever is the winner more time to bask in the glory. I think the reason that golf, tennis and F1 can have several competitions in a year and just declare a grand champion based on individual performance at the end of the year is because they are already well-entrenched organizations, with established rules, procedures, and policies. And, individual competitions are handled by different people, with just a stamp of approval from the parent organization.

After Efren won the recent IPT, did anyone hear of Thorsten? He was the toast of the town for all of three months, and then he was old news. I think they could've milked each championship dry for a whole year and drummed up interest for next year's tournament.

It was a case of too much, too soon, and a lot of people got drunk with the prospect of making so much money that all rational thought was thrown out the window. Hopefully, Stanley Ho and his organization has better experience and logistics to carry over the IPT to success.

KT pockets are super deep. Pool players pockets have holes in them. KT wants pool to be the way of Golf. Lots of tournaments, lots of money, lots of players winning. And you don't like it?? Pool is not a team sport. It is an individual game, won by individuals. And there are plenty of individuals out there who are barely making a living and the IPT giving them lots of opportunities to make a successful living.

Deep pockets does not mean you will get into them, KT is already bailing out of the IPT according to him. The poster is suggesting a model that can be built on and grow, the current model seems destine to fail and what good is that. I will just come right out and say it, baring them just giving money away out of their pockets for the sake of giving it away, there is no way there will be a 2007 season or any other seasons for that matter.

The IPT can't support the kind of debt they are creating and nor should they. This thing needs to go back to the drawing board but I expect it will go to the wrecking yard instead. It is nice to be positive but you have to look at it from a common sense point of view and it makes no sense no matter how you look at it. Tell me why any investor should put money into the IPT? They would be hitting a home run if they could ever get it on a self supporting basis much less a profitable venture. The whole thing makes no sense and never has.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone on this board has any business sense at all. I have never seen so many armchair financial tycoons in my life.

Did it ever occur to any of you that maybe Kevin Trudeau has plans that differ from your idea of what business is and what timeline a business should have? Did it ever occur to any of you that Kevin might have access to different avenues of financing and different spheres of investors?

How is garnering a reported $150 million investment/sale and a five year contract to be the commissioner "bailing" on the IPT?

It's obvious that WE are not going to be any more privy than we are right now to either the inner workings of Kevin Trudeau's plan nor the inner workings of the IPT.

We are going to be spectators and speculators. If the IPT succeeds, and I hope it does for the player's sakes, the days of seeing your favorite player at regional tours or at $10,000 added tournaments are going to be over.

If you all love pool so much then why don't we fund our own professional tour and own it? Instead of spending $72 a year on IPT subscriptions let's do our own grassroots public company and run professional pool. Exactly, no one wants to get off their ass or their pocketbook to actually do something worthwhile (not that running a pro pool tour is all that worthwhile anyway). We all - including me - would rather sit around and complain rather than doing something.

So applaud the IPT, give them a big fat round of applause. The IPT and especially Kevin Trudeau has provided us do nothing complainers with plenty of free entertainment for a year and a half.

If you believe the IPT was sold for $150m then you need your head examined! As an IPT player has said to me on a number of occassions, Im suprised people aren't given them more flak for cancelling a WHOLE event! I'll let you connect the dots.

I hope youre speaking for yourself, I'm 100% sure I wouldn't swap my life so far for KT's!

What free entertainment?

I wonder if anyone has been paid for the last tournament yet?

Do you hear something? Who's that fat lady walking to the stage?

Try reading the post before you jump to a response.

What part of the word "reported" did you not understand?

Who said anything about swapping lives? What are you on?

The point is that you and me and just about everyone else here THINKS they know what's going on with the IPT and the truth is that none of us KNOWS what's going on. Not one of us is willing to get off our asses to DO SOMETHING though. If we would have spent the SAME AMOUNT of time doing something to positively impact the game as we have spent speculating about things we KNOW NOTHING ABOUT then pool would be in a much better state. Can you argue with that?

Why don't you tell us Craig what the IPT did or did not SELL FOR since you KNOW THE FACTS? In fact, you are just speculating like the rest of us and taking a piss at me while showing your ignorance. Neither you nor I have any clue how the deal, if there is a deal, with Ho Casino is structured. You don't even know the ****ing address of the IPT.

If you listen to what KT says, he says that HO has acquired the IPT 100%, (His Words) The mention of the value is of the nature that he says, "Insiders have valued the transaction at 150 million" Big Difference, there is no 150 mill being fed into the IPT just this very very vague reference to what the deal may be worth at some point. KT may have gotten out around even and the future value refereed to will be up to what ever Ho has in mind such as on line betting on matches and so on. All very vague and under the table, the players are out of the loop it seems. As for the future of the IPT, it is as uncertain as the weather at this point.

The disturbing part of the speech he gave is he keeps alluding to what they are working on in the future and it is the same things he was talking about at the first players meeting, DVD sales and so on. There is still no DVD's or much of anything else for that matter other then the new scheme with getting people to sign up for $29.95. Their ideas seem to be all over the place.

Thing is, with the 100% acquisition of the IPT, (KT words) nothing is certain anymore and the players don't have a clue what is going on and seem to be scared to death to ask any questions. Is anybody watching out for their interests? Do they even matter to the IPT, would not seem so at this point. If the IPT goes over seas alltogether tough cookies for them. In other words, "What are they complaining about, they are just a bunch of dumb pool players who had nothing before anyway, they made a few bucks" thats life."

Did you mean acquisition ?

(can't read & comprehend & play poker & chew gum at the same time)

Yea, I type fast and hit spell check. If I don't proof read I may misspell something so bad I spelled something else and spell check shows everything as correct. A business letter I would pay more attention to then a forum post but I always try to do the best I can on anything I write. I will correct that, thanks

What I would liked to have seen is a less top heavy payouts in the NAO and the WO, this would have surely freed up enough money to go through with one more event. A $500,000 first prize looks great on TV and all, but it's not like the players wouldn't be fired up to play for $200,000.

By going the route of the PGA tour with several competitions in a year, he put a huge strain on his finances and organization.

If he had marketed the IPT as a "normal" Pro Tour initially, with "normal" 5-figure prize purses, developed it slowly and carefully over a few years, built a consistent ranking and qualifying system, consistent equipment and rule formats on the promise that everyone involved would eventually be playing for six or seven-figure purses in a few years, who would have believed it? Everyone would have been yelling to put up the big prize money right from the start or shut up.

Let's face it, the entire raison d’être of the IPT is the large prize funds, and the quality of playing environment made possible by that money. Other than that it has little else to offer the sport that is not already being done by other organizations.

It also seems clear that as long as the prize funds are maintained by the IPT that the majority of current and aspiring Pro players will make the IPT their top priority to the detriment of the other existing organizations and tours, and no one can blame them for that.

If the new deal with Ho results in a major reduction of the prize funds to economize until/unless some lucrative TV deals are struck then that would be the quickest way to ensure the IPT dies. Well that and not actually paying out those prize funds ;-)

I could careless if the IPT is a success or failer. Why, because only one person controls the fate of the IPT that is Kevin Traudau and KT only. Professional Pool players RIGHT NOW have an opportunity to make money-a living ( at least for the time being). I am seeing it from a pool players point of view. If KT is putting money out there for player to make, they have to get it and get it now. I hope the IPT is around for a long time and when an event is near or around my area, I attend and support it and the players. Professional Pool is the only game out there that history actually repeats itself....So get while the going is good..

For starters... it's COULDN'T care less!!!! I understand (but still hate it) when people SAY they "COULD care less", when they mean "COULDN'T care less", but typing it?????

As for the rest of the ignorance! I can not believe that no one has any faith in any of this! If there never was a website, a tournament, a qualifier, a players meeting, a televised event, a pay-out, or a multi-billionaire backing it... then I could see reason to say that someone is full of it!

I mean, come on people! This is not some guy you met at 4 a.m. hanging off a barstool telling you this tale of how he's starting a pool tour with 7 figure payouts!!!

Do you think KT's big plan was to be able to scam $29 from all the pool fans in the world to open a new savings account? The greatest hustle in pool history.. knock everyone of us off, $29 at a time, with out a cue???

Do you think the players would have returned if they never got paid the first, second, third, fourth time????

Reyes alone could have, after winning $500,000 said "Who cares, I'll never see it... I'm still waiting for my $200,000" but he didn’t... why? because he already got paid his money, and knows the checks are good!!!!

Ha Ha Ha Ha

You just could not take it any longer, could you?

You succumbed to debating with idiots.

It really is a no win situation.

I have an excuse, I am retired, and I am bored, and I like to instigate.

Never, ever try to use logic to prove them wrong, because then, just like Democrats they just yell louder.
