Irish Linen Spools

In case anybody didn't see the other thread ...

The Hulbert Linen company is in the next town over from me. I stopped in and got a price for a case of linen, which is a substantial savings from buying it one spool at a time. There is a 25 roll minimum. So far, I've got 11-12 confirmed rolls spoken for. I need to get up to 20 and I will place an order. The first order will be for Black with White Specs. Once that's done and delivered, I'll see about ordering a case of all black.

The owner told me he's not doing much with colors right now as some of the dye houses have gone out of business so anything I order will have to be of the white / black variety.

If you're interested in a roll or a couple of rolls, PM me and I will get back to you with the price. I am not making a profit off of these, just sharing the savings. Once we're at at least 20 rolls confirmed, I'll place the order and keep any extras. Since I only need 1 or 2 rolls for myself, I'll sell those off at a little higher price in the future.

Thanks

Oh yeah, due to the 70 message limitation and me never deleting anything, my PM box is often close to capacity. IF it's full, you can email me at tony@zinzola.com

Why would they sell to you at a wholesale price if you are just going to resell it at cost destroying their retail market? What does that do to their distributors and dealers? I could see you getting together with a few friends discreetly and sharing an order, but posting to a public forum and making an offering just so you can save yourself a few bucks? They should not sell to you at any price. I am sorry, there is right and wrong and this is wrong. I hope you can objectively see that.

I think Tony is just sharing a good deal and cutting out the middle mans profit.Less cost for linen per cue equals more profit for the CUEMAKER.Last time I looked this is the "Cuemakers forum".

i think Tony has every right to to do this.it saves $15 bucks a roll or so and Atlas has their prices on everything so high that they need a litlle competition.

Actually he doesn't and if he told them the truth they would not sell to him.

Actually he knows exactly what I am doing. They have also not sold any to Atlas in over three years.

If you had read the other thread, somebody posted about sources for Irish Linen. It turned out the company was in the next town over, so I stopped in to see if I could get a deal.

I spoke to the owner and I can buy it, but only by the case. I could have bought the case and then sold them here at a profit, but I really don't care about making a couple of dollars on a roll and would rather pass on the savings to some of the people who have helped me out.

If you don't think it's right, then don't buy any.

I did actually start a thread asking for a direct source for linen. Tony was kind enough to check up on one of the distributors/makers of this and posted in my thread.

For me this is really a friendly gesture from Tony, helping me and others out!

I really hate when someone has found something and want to keep it as their own secret to squeeze every $ they can when they sell to end customers... That's why I'm searching for a direct source.

Macguy: How many distributors/dealers is there? 2-3? If Atlas has not bought from them in many years and the manufacturer says it's OK, what is the problem?

You know...

When we sell stuff at $x per item, we get out of it what we need. Whether the buyer wants to resell the item at a higher or lower price, or whether he wants to give it away, that doesn't matter to us. We got the price we wanted/needed for it. What they do with it is up to them. The item(s) belong to them and so does the responsibility of what to do with it.

What if a guy wanted to buy a few cases of something and give it all away as Christmas or birthday gifts? Is there a rule against that? Where is this "rule"? Where do you draw the line?

I think I can understand where Macguy is coming from. I think He's talking about It being offered to the masses, and possibly people that haven't contributed here, so as it may not be exactly like a co-opt purchase in that sense, but this is the way i see it- I also think it is a kind gesture on Tony's part, and I see no problem with him sharing with friends. Alot of people here are friends of sort, and often people help each other out. I have often been on both the giving and receiving end here quite a few times, and often times no money is exchanged at all for goods, because most people are decent folk and won't except It. Well atleast on some smaller items, but others may still be at cost. I'm thankfull to be around such people that are that kind. Most of it is done in private though, but I think Tony's intentions are good here. I for one can't fault him for that, no more then I would fault him for making a few bucks per roll if he so chose to do so. I know most people here would be using the linen theirselves, but I just hope anyone that is getting some from him, will be obtaining them for their own uses, and not for resale at a profit, unless the profits are shared with him. That would be taking advantage of someone's kindness IMHO.

I would get a couple of rolls Myself, but I already have a couple of them in black/white, and don't have the need for them right now.
Still I'm interested in the next case if the color is one I don't have and can use.:)

Ok, order has been placed and I'll drop by tomorrow to pay for them. I will have about 10 extra rolls in case I forgot anybody and I"ll sell them if not. Probably 2 weeks on delivery. I'll get emails and PMs out later regarding payment.

Looks like Postage is $8.95 Priority Flat Rate (Not sure how many spools I can fit in the box, but I think it's a couple) or $6.00 for 1 spool Parcel Post.

I started to order a couple of rolls but stopped as then it dawned on me that, normally, I don't prefer Hurlebert linen. I got a roll here that I've had for years that I only use when I run out of the Original Irish Linen. It's OK but I feel the Genuine feels a little finer.

Are you sure? I like the S.H. linen. It's thicker then others and when finished has a wonderful feel. You can feel the linen almost like a leather feel and not hard like the thin linen. I would almost call it luxurious in nature.

Ya know funny You should mention that. I have different rolls, but some is from older stock, and is finer then the more modern stuff, but I'm not sure what brand it all is, The older white/black I have is only marked as linen cable cord, left twist inside the tube. seems like atleast one roll i figured out was some older hurlbert, but it does not seem as thick as the newer hurlbert.

One thing that was strange is that I have a roll of solid black too in the modern, both that and the black/white are Hurlbert, same labeling and all, but for some reason the black/white presses out alot finer & smoother then the solid black color. Strange because they are the same brand with the same modern label on them. The solid black I used on one of My personal cues, and it was actually removing the skin from My hand and turning the linen white in places. The black/ white presses out perfect and stays that way with no such problems though. Hand slides accross it like glass, and it stays that way. I guess That kind of makes me wonder if Some rolls come out better then others, even within the same brand name. Not sure what the difference could be, both were just starched and pressed, but the black would wear into your hand for some reason, and the other didn't do that at all.

Still, It seems like I liked the hurlbert better then the blue mountain when atlas offered both, because it didn't seem to knot/fuzz up as bad, but to be honest I'm pretty happy as long as it presses out nice and smooth, and stays that way. BTW did they quit making Blue Mountain?
