Irish Linen wraps

What's the difference between an irish linen wrap and a pressed or even double pressed irish linen wrap? How is the linen "pressed?"

The reason I ask is that I was talking to a guy about the wrap on my cue, which I believe is double pressed irish linen. He was convinced that because it felt different from his unpressed linen wrap, that it was coated like a Meucci. I knew that wasn't the case, but I was having trouble explaining the difference to him. Then it occurred to me that I don't know what the process is that makes the wrap slick like that, and I got curious.

Thanks!

Linen is wound onto the handle & UNPRESSED it would have a rough cord like feel. If it is pressed, then it would be starched or wet with some liquid & some sort of press is used, to flatten the linen string. If a smoother, shinnier feel is wanted than the string is lightly shaved or sanded, to get any uneveness out & then restarched & repressed. Thus the DOUBLE PRESSING. Often a sealer is added at the end to give an even slicker feel. Hope this helps...JER

Between this and the table mechanic forum, there's a lot of good info floating around!!

Yea but, we as cuemakers, prefer to drag others down to our level before giving that info out.
