Irritation with crap on ebay....

I'm sure that all of you look at cues on ebay. Not too long ago, you had the ability to view every cue in the "Billiards > Cues" section and see everything in a matter of a few minutes.

I just looked and there was something like 190 pages of cues vs. the avg 50ish. Where the hell did the additional 140 pages of CRAP come from? It seems that you now need to know exactly what you are looking for in order to find it, because I damn sure am not going to spend several hours trying to sift through the crap on there..

Has anyone else noticed this??

No, I haven't

reassly noticed this, but I always try to qualify what I am searching for, i.e.,
Break/jump cues, cue case 3 x 6, etc.., so that I only get what I am looking for and not a whole lot of extra pages.

I know its the pits to look for cues, and come up with boo koo pages of cues that sell for less than $20, like novelty cues when you are looking for better cues.

I think this happened last year around this time too. If I had to take a guess, I think that most of the internet sellers wind down their online sales before going to a big expo so they don't have stuff hanging out while they are gone. This is obviously just a guess, but since Valley Forge is coming up...?

X-mas 2004 that was like 4200 Cues For Sale on E-bay, I only look at the first 200, Plus look at the old Brunswicks and never bought a Cue off e-bay yet.

I search by price.. either highest first or lowest first, depending on what I'm looking for. That way you find only the quality level of cues you are looking for.

This is the technique i use,...

I only have to look at 2 pages starting from highest.

If its shit then it wont be there. Secondly, if your looking for a palmer or specific do a search.

1proscoe,

That's why I buy cues from my fellow AZ'er. : )

Concerning the question...I make is simple. Once each day, maybe two, I arrange cues from Highest to lowest, or within the price range I can afford. This will usually net me anywhere from 3 to 5 pages. Nothing ever escapes market equilibrium on ebay, so you can safely assume that a Hercek won't sell for $100. There is the snipping that occurs, but usually the cue is bid up to a level that is included in my price range check. There is the occasional BIN auction, where a deal can be had, but unfortunately, there is no way insure seeing it before it's over.

I'm really tired of dealing with Ebay, and have limited my search time. For the most part, I think that it is a sellers market, and therefore good deals are hard to find. On top of this, you might be disappointed with the condition of the cue....you definately take your chances.

Regards,

Doug

Yes, I've noticed all the crap auctions. Some of the stuff you look at and wonder, why even bother listing it? And not to mention all the fake auctions, shill bidding (do people really think that no one notices?), completely misadvertised cues, etc. For the most part it's a bummer, but every now and then there's a jewel in the rough (just ask Tate).

If you're looking for something cheap and good, ebay can work out really well. However, as always, Caveat Emptor is in order.

I think it has to do with the "online stores" listing their entire cue inventories under separate listings.

It seems like everyday there are 25-40 more DP's listed along with all the other mass quantities of KC's and other odds & ends.

Try this in the search field:
-carved -minnesota -jump -miranda -majestic -free -kc -viper -action -mizerak -harvard -eliminator -mcdermott -sneaky -meucci -schon -viking -predator -perry -l2000 -pechuar -jarvis -lucasi -cuetec -pechauer -imperial -falcon -retail -fury -fiberglass -nfl -fibreglass -graphite

This'll get it down 2600 or so, even now. Add or subtract your own, then search by highest $ to lowest, then bookmark.

Is it my imagination or does it seem like DP puts out a lot of "one-of-a-kind"
cues for sale? I dont know how one guy can make that many. Just wondering.

I noticed that on the high end pool tables come up when i do pool cue search... I didnt used to be like that... their search engine used to be smarter i thought... on the lo end there is probably other pool accesories that get lumped in...

I wonder if they dumbed down their search engine due to stores and other sellers complaining that they dont get enough hits???

Conspiracy?

Like Fat Ivory mentioned, the "Advanced Search" works great! Eliminate all the BS like unwanted brands, price level, store view etc etc. Click the save search for the next time around. The saved search will then be accessable on your My Ebay page. :p

i mostly try to buy locally cheap and then sell for a return on ebay.

Just the opposite for me. I can sell the same cue for more locally then I could get on Ebay. I am just able to do more quanity on ebay. Of course I am talking production stuff, not custom or collector.

why not just go into cues and type in custom..then click on how many days cues you feel like looking at. i usually look at 2 days worth at a time. that is about all i can handle myself....that will cut it down alot. atleast that is what i do..................mike
