I dont know the game very well. There is talk about movers and shooters, I was just wondering ( for 1 because the tapes I have everyone is running 8 and outs) is the game becoming more offensive or did the old school movers run out just the same. And if it is becoming more offensive is Reyes the reason ( yea most of my tapes have him in them but not all )...

I think one of the first great shooters was Ronnie Allen. That guy could just flat out make ANYTHING! Also later on, guys like Efren, Frost, Chohan etc. pushed the more offensive game.....which is how I like to play.
It puts a TON of pressure on you when a guy will shoot from anywhere!
Like any other game.....I learned the defensive side of 1P also, but I don't really like the "wedge" style of game.....or the Chicago style for that matter....very frustrating

I think I would watch more of it if two guys like John S. were matching up all the time. I'm not trying to take anything away from the champs that play/played it like Chess, it's just more exiting to me and faster when played by John and types of players like him. Johnnyt
I think the game has made an enormous change over the years. Ronnie was one of the first big shooters of the game and at the time by far one of the most creative. He just had no fear. He was always shooting into the stack and kicking balls and so forth. When it came to the end game though, he just never seemed to leave any kind of shot.
I think 1 pocket has changed a lot just like 9 ball. I suppose it just had to happen though. It's funny to me though that no matter how a guy moves or how smart he is in the game, nothing replaces the ability to pocket balls. It's an ingredient one must have these days in order to excell.
As Ronnie has quoted many times, "the best safety in the world is, 8, and out"!

I agree Louis, all the best of Ronnies era ran 8 (or more) and out. The Reds, Shorty, Taylor, Kelly. Just a matter of beating the other guy to the shot. It's not a lot different now, just better (a little) players. Before Ronnie etc. the slow cloth and Mud balls didn't make for a runout game the best players got 1or2 and went to the dugout. The game is still about creativity and imagination and the good players are getting better. You and I better not play anyone who runs 8 (OR 10 OR 12)and out.
