Is a legit world pool tour starting to emerge?

With the Chinese 8-ball and the World 10-ball, there are now 6 events on the WPA schedule that could legitimately be called majors:

China Open
World 9-ball
US Open 9-ball
All-Japan
Chinese 8-ball
World 10-ball

Still not there, obviously, but it's some momentum in the right direction. Too bad they are mostly in Asia. It would be nice to add one major in Europe and another in the US. Also would be nice to get the prize money up.

I think there are too many flaws to turn it into a series.
The first thing that comes to mind is standardized equipment.

for me the term "major" is it would apply to pool is simply an event that would feature the majority of the world's top pros, wpa sanctioned or not

to your point, I think this is the best time in recent memory as far as total pro events, hopefully the purses will increase

Very Positive Outlook

You are so right. It's good to have evidence of things getting better on that end and something to base a positive outlook for the world events.

What about the states? Who are the major promoters and what are their usual events?

From CSI's website:

2015 US Open 10-Ball Championship
Jul 24-26, 2015 (Las Vegas, NV)

2015 US Open 8-Ball Championship
Jul 29-31, 2015 (Las Vegas, NV)

Also of mention:

US Bar Table Championship
Derby City Classic
US Open
Turning Stone

The 8 and 10 ball opens are on bar boxes.

For a tour to take place, all of the events have to be part of some organization, the WPA does not actually put on any of the tournaments except for the world championship. Plus 90% of the big prize tournaments are out of the US which is not good for most players that need to play to fly / stay / eat there and even the best players have maybe a 10% chance of making enough back to break even.

Events

That's not what was asked...

CSI is a major promoter and those are the usual events.

Well things aren't so bad but I'm sure that it would be nice if there were more Pro Events. Not to open a sore wound here but have the players themselves ever tried to organize a event?

For the American players there needs to be a tour in the states. Only about 5 (at most) have backing to travel out of the country. Johnnyt

Well, you have the Joss Tour and Predator Tour, but they both won't grow due to exactly what you said. Most of them can't afford to travel.

When there is at least one major pro tournament a month, we will have the beginning of a world pro tour. Six events (with a couple in question) doesn't constitute a tour imo. Of course the World Pool Doubles and World Pool Masters by Matchroom are also both good events that could legitimately be added to this list.

Now we need some dates beside the events. Chinese 8 ball is different are there many players playing that? I saw a video of Mike Davis playing Evgeny Stalev in Russia playing 14.1 in Russia. I would have never thought Id see that.

Using what?...their good looks? LOL Don't you think if they (the "pros") had the $$$ to put on their own events they would? You can't be that naive. Several times in the past poolplayers put on tournaments and took off with the money! It didn't happen a lot, but it happened more than a few times in the past 40+ years. You could say that it's still happening with the Barry Behrman escapades...except he's not a poolplayer!
