Is a Moori tip worth it?

i am thinking about gettin a moori put in my cue. i have shot some balls with one before but not long enough to know if i would like one for good. I am used to paying about 10 bucks for a triangle to be installed on my cue. the last time i got a tip put on it was done incorrectly so i just want another tip. I just want to know if it is worth 35 bucks to get one put on my cue. do they last?
 
They sure last longer than triangles!

If I were you, i'd consider a sniper tip instead of a moori. According to what I've read lately, snipers are the best... Your choice anyway.

A Moori will last me a couple of years, playing about 40 hours/week.

I'm not so sure they will last that long, but they do last a while. Lasting longer is certainly a great feature to have in a tip, but I would think that the quality of hit is the primary concern.

There are players that get kind of caught up in the cost of a tip and how long it will last, as opposed to how will it add confidence to one's game because of the quality of hit experienced.

But, the bottom line is, how often do you play? What caliber player are you? Are you able to detect a difference in the way different tips feel when you hit them? Does the tip compliment your game? Etc., etc. There are a bunch of questions that need to be answered in order for you to be assisted in making a decision.

Finally, I do agree with the playability and longevity of the Sniper tips mentioned previously. It seems that many, many players that aren't sure about what tip to have installed, seem to have no problem getting used to and liking the Sniper tip. Just one consideration out of many. I used moori med's for about 18months and you will notice a difference when using english. I myself just didnt like how they seemed to glaze over really quick.

I myself stopped using them about 6months ago, and either go with a Triumph or Triangle. I have a Triangle on my Zim cue now and scuffed it almost down to the ferrule and it works great. It usta mushroom out alot. So i just took it way down.

And it works just fine. I also use alot of english and play on Diamonds, so the extra english that i'm missing is not noticed. Plus, I only tip pik the tip when it doesnt seem to hold chalk well.

Also, getting a tip put on correctly does help too. Expecially on the way it will play, and feel.
 
i really like moori mediums, definitely the best feeling tip i have used (thus far) i have used elk master and triangle and plan on trying more tips such as sniper and kamui.

they do glaze over and some people say they have trouble with miscues at first but i adapted to mine quite fast. just tonight i was playing and there was no chalk on the table but i was too lazy to go grab another cube so i tried to run out with out it lol. did ok ran 4 balls before i missed.
 
Moori Medium

35 bucks for a tip? I pay about 20 to have my moori medium put on. Lasts pretty long but always mushrooms. I do not know if it's the humidity in hawaii or what not but always mushrooms. It shoots ok. But I definitely have to try a sniper sometime.
 
i think most any tip will mushroom, at first my moori med was mushrooming but one of the older players i know shaved the sides so it was conical after that no mushrooming what so ever the sides did eventually fill out but that was it i havent had to shave the sides since, and i have had the tip on for about 16 months now for the first 10 it was my regular playing cue now i use it for breaking and the tip is holding up fine.
 
I switched from a moori median to a moori hard. IMO the ball reacts better to the hard while not worrying about miscues.
 
moori's dont last long at all anymore. get a sniper. a broken in sniper hits 10x better then moori and u never gotta shape it. i break with my playing cue and it always keeps it shape. and moori's miscue alot and then its time to change it once u start to like it. i never tried moori hard tho.

I like moori's

I've been using Moori's for about 3 years and I think
there great. Try med hard. They may mushroom slightly
when first put on, but I just trim it with razer blade.

I heard they have good prices on Moori's, but, I have never
bought any from the site.

Triangle to Sniper

You don't have to wait any time for a sniper to break in. They will shoot the same throughout the whole tip!!!!

Triangles are a medium to hard tip, and sniper is a hard tip. I switched to Sniper and absolutely love them! They are able to put more english than a triangle, and they last even longer than the moori tip.

I have tried three different types of mooris and I just don't like the way they shoot compared to the sniper, and in my experience they don't last much longer than a triangle.

Sniper costs about the same and I shaped it after it was put on and didn't shape it again for about 4 months!

Just my opinion, but you put what you want on it cause I know a lot of people love moori.

I think any good tip will do, as long as it's good. The best thing about layered tips is their consistency from tip to tip. So, in that respect, layered tips are worth it. And Moori still leads the pack, by performance or by legend.

So many peope give Sniper tips a big thumbs up. I need to give a full trial, but the one or two times I hit with one, I liked it a lot (not just a little).

Probably humidity. I don't have mushrooming problems here in the high desert of Denver.
 
Yeah, 40 hours a week! :D

Some times, 12 hours a day. :cool: Like I've been saying all over this board, the "Zen" in Zen Cueism gives one mastery of one's life, not just pool. I now have ample time to walk the Four-Bank Path to Enlightenment and Correct Thinking.

A Moori MH lasts so long because I don't remove leather by scuffing or trimming after it's installed and shaped to a nickel radius. My chi molds the tip to its proper shape about two days after I install a new tip. Then it's just a matter of picking the tip ocassionally to help it hold chalk.

I agree, Gene, that it's more important to use a tip that compliments your playing style than to worry about how long it lasts. Even $35 is just one good night out; if such a tip lasts four months, the cost is trivial.

I'm intrigued by all the good opinions of Sniper tips. I think I'll go buy one today.
 
About five years ago a friend of mine talked me into spending $ 40.00 on a Moori (medium) and that was great advice, I have been using Moori's on all my cues since then.. I have never had a glazing or mushroom problem. I burnish the sides of the tip with a dollar bill and it keeps the tip perfect. I shoot about 15 hours a week and change tips once a year. I find the Moori grabs the cueball better than any other tip I have ever used. Money well spent.
 
I like the hit of Moori mediums the best. The Sniper is my second favorite for hit. The Moori's do glaze over but a quick touch up every few days will keep it from miscuing. The Sniper definitely requires less maintenance. Triangles are a pretty close third but sometimes you get a bad one.

NO tip gets "better" english than another. :rolleyes: It's all in the quality of your stroke. The next time you see Randy, ask him, and see if he doesn't tell you the same thing. Many players prefer one tip over another, but that is just a personal choice. A player can make a cue perform with any tip, provided they have a solid, repeatable stroke. Layered tips will generally last longer than solid tips...but if you don't mess with the tip, any tip will last a long time. I get a couple years use out of mine, playing every day...and I break with the same cue.
