Is anyone else surprised by IPT round 1???

I think the world of Thorsten Hohmann. I also think the field for the IPT is EXTREMELY STRONG. With that being said. I am in shock that Thorsten is not in the final 6 again, and in contention for winning. He is so consistant, with fantastic skills.

What can you do when your opponent runs 5 racks on you??? That wouldn't of happened to Earl, he would have found a way to trip or get inside LJJ's head. Hey, I am thrilled by LJJ running 5 racks...FANTASTIC job. I am still shaking my head at Thorsten's early exit.

The other 5 from the last IPT's final 6 (Manalo, Efren, Orcollo, Stalev & Souquet) , averaged over 75% game winning percentage. They didn't lose a match, and noone even scored over 5 games against them. TH only scored over 5 games once, and that was for for his 8-2 win over Jim Raney.

I hope someone that was there can fill in the gaps, and shed more light on his matches. Linda?

Also, it is strange that the final six from the last IPT are now Playing each other in the 2nd round. They are all in group 41, 42 & 43.

Jasmin vs Earl... sometime today. If it's not her 1st match, I think Jasmin will beat Earl 8-6. I don't think she is better than Earl. I just think her mental state is much better than his, and that he will get frustrated when he can't get inside her head. :D

I think she is an underdog to win, but I really think she will. From the little that I have seen, I'm not that impressed with Earl's 8 ball game.
It will be fun to watch!

Earl's strongest game is 9-ball not 8-ball. In 8-ball, I think Jasmin is probably the better player and will beat Earl 8-5. :)
 
Wont mention names but 1 player didnt win a single frame! :eek:

Yep, he lost 8:0, 8:0, 8:0, 8:0! :mad:

Hi Mike,

I wasn't there watching Thorsten's matches, being in battle myself or watching Mike Z's matches, but it is certainly the buzz here.

Jasmin plays Earl in the 8:00 round, probably on the TV tables. I am going to tape it!
 
Linda, I'm up in the Ottawa Valley. I see you played Gerry Watson in the first round. Can you tell us how his game is now. He's from Cornwall Ont and used to come play up here a bit. Any insight on Gerry :)
 
One thing i have learned is you can have just as crazy upsets in 8 Ball as 9 Ball. Making a ball on the break is more important than in 9 ball at this level and if you don't i guess anyone can beat you....., well almost anyone.
 
People go on about 9ball being a lucky game. Well if I make a ball on the break in 8 ball I am strong to run it out. 9ball is tougher IMO.
 
Thorsten doesn't sound too worried about it. As a matter of fact he was quite cheerful and accepting of what happened yesterday. Loree Jon played a great match. All credit goes to her ability to win, not Thorsten's inability to win. That's just pool. Winning the NAO was emotionaly and physically draining. Thorsten needs to take time off to relax, and he will be back again in the winner's circle. He is a champion, and champion allow things like this to motivate them even more than before.

I agree and I'm sure TH realizes how all the distractions/recognition of being the last winner and the attention he's gotten before the event made it that more difficult to be 100% mentally tough.

Are you sure? I checked the stats, and worst performance I saw was three games won. I guess I won't name him either.

Ryan Keller - Group 5

He didn't win a game. If we were picking a song for him, it would be "Momma said there'd be days like this"... Ryan got $5K for his troubles. From what I hear Ryan is a very nice man, just a bit outclassed at the IPT level.

If I am understanding you correctly, you are saying that Earl would have found a way to shark LJJ.
I agree. He would have made rude comments and he would have started talking to the crowd. Earl probably would have thrown LJJ off of her game and he would have ended up a winner.
IMHO, Thorsten has a lot more class than that.
 
I agree with there is some level of luck involved in some billiard games. If there were some way to keep statistics on the game then you might be able to say fully there is no luck involved.

Earl's sharking tactics might have worked on LJJ but I don't think that it will have any effect on Jasmin Ouschan in tonight's match-up. Jasmin's mental game is a lot tougher than LJJ's.
 
Not being able to win a single game is ridiculous, as is being 0-8 in matches over the last two tourneys.

One IPT member is 0-9 going back to the KOTH tourney and playing today, will probably end up at 0-13.

Another IPT member of the top of my head is 1-13.

There are players who can't even manage one B&R.

Considering how fast the IPT has put together its qualfiers, I would have prefered to have seen a qualification system in place for most of the IPT members since alot of them are being clearly outclassed.

But I digress, such are the results of a new tour, they'll all be weeded
out soon enough and the cream will rise.

Thanks, I see what I did wrong, I sorted the 200 player list for games won. He wasn't written up just below the player with three racks, but a full page down. I should have scrolled down, sorry!

You still have 150 of the best players on earth-Even Taiwan is getting in. How many other tournaments in pool history can say that? Not even the US Open or the WPC.What difference does it make if there are a few stiffs-no big deal at all IMHO.
