Is Charlie Williams the most powerful man in pro-pool?

...Figure $40,000 a week nut on the low end for 26 weeks. I cant think of anything in pool that does anything close to that...
meh, take your reality, foresight and logic and go! it is not useful here and does not fit The Plan.

The million only covers the prize fund. There is still salaries for all the players and crew for 26 weeks. Plus all the other expenses of a business. Figure $40,000 a week nut on the low end for 26 weeks. I cant think of anything in pool that does anything close to that. I have talked to the biggest promoters in the world and neither can they. But hey....the boys from Canada say none of them have any clue what they are doing so I am eager to see how its really supposed to be done.

On the bright side, there may be a cheap studio available in the future if you're looking to up-size a little.

PS - I sent an e-mail re next week's seating, but haven't heard anything. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned my AZB name?

Talking to someone today it was said that "Charlie Williams is the most powerful man in pro-pool today" I was shocked to hear this and had said "No way" It was then explained to me that he does more events than anyone and is controling alot of things that we have no idea about and he will be doing alot more in the future. I do not know Charlie Williams other than events I have heard of and the usual things that are said in these forums so he does do alot of tournaments and manages some of the top players, is this really all it takes to be the most powerful man in pool? Maybe so since the pool world is fractured in so many ways that all it takes is one person to stand out and have influence over players and tournaments.
This is not to bash Charlie Williams but to see what the popular opinion is among the pool community. If not Charlie then who?

don't know about the most powerful, but sure is the creepiest. he just gives off a bad vibe.

I pretty much go along with your overall take on things Lou..As much as I hate pessimism, its very hard to find a really bright spot for pool in general..It is good we have people like CJ and Jam..who seem to be eternally optomistic... Being as my 'sell by' date, has long expired, I am content with enjoying whatever streams are available...I do appreciate, and support, the streamer's, as for most it is just a labor of love, not a step to becoming a millionaire.

We all love our pool, (this is after all, a pool forum) and I think its automatic, that we all HOPE for a 'magical' upsurge in acceptance..I believe, for all the reasons already stated, and probably many more,...that "the glass is half full" attitude, is VERY unrealistic.

Sure millions of people still play pool, but very few take it beyond a night 'out with the guy's', ala bowling..They could care less about professional pool...Also, there are thousands of more diversions available now, that didn't exist in EVEN the early 90's..Any 'upsurge', in Professional Pool player income, basically died with the failure of IPT, and Trudeau..

We now have a gentleman trying honestly, ( but, in vain thus far) to implement all sorts of new and exciting concepts.(Bonus Ball)...Given his apparent business model, if he is even moderately successful, than I'll be the first to admit, pool has at least a prayer..(CJ, wanna bet big $$$$ on THOSE stars 'aligning' ?

Until then, there is NO movie, even with a the GREATEST screenplay, and the greatest cast and director, that can ressurect pool (even modestly) as the advent of "the Hustler or "TCOM" did years ago ! It simply ain't 1961, or 1985 any more !

Lets be realistic !...Saginaw, MI..may still be the "Buggy Whip Capitol of the World" ?...But, that ceased to matter, about a hundred years ago ! TIMES DO CHANGE, don't they ?...

Dick, IMO the only thing that will "save pool" is non-pool players running pool rooms. Now, I say that semi-facetiously, only because, having been to pool rooms all across the country, I often leave wondering, "How do they ever stay in business?" Now, sadly, many, many of those rooms are gone.

Of course part of it is the economy in general, but it's also a case of many rooms being set up and run poorly. When the day comes that pool rooms are run as businesses, which multiple revenue streams to capture all categories of players, give lessons, have a pro shop, sell quality food and beverages, properly maintain their equipment, hold tournaments, run leagues, be in a decent building and neighborhood, etc., then pool will have a chance.

When/if people see that a pool room, run the right way can succeed as a business, then the pool halls will proliferate instead of dying off. The old model of a pool player getting a cheap building in a lousy part of town and crowding in some beat up old GCIIs and vending machines and calling it a pool room has done more to kill off pool in this country than anything else, IMO.

It's very cold up here and a lot of our people as kids have been hit in the head with pucks oh and the beer is quite strong.

I wouldnt want to pay the for the electric to cool 12,000 sq feet in Vegas. All the money is made online. Unless they plan to open the place as a pool room during the week it makes no sense to have a place that big. Then you have all the expenses and hassles of a pool room but at least that would make a little sense.

I have you down for Saturday/ 1P next weekend. Still have some slots for Friday open if you want to come. My bad on the reply I'm too busy making sure I dont miss the next Barry post.

I understand, it's hard to turn your head on a train wreck that's going on 3 days. Somehow, some way, we'll have to get the US Open, Kamui Chalk and Mosconi's high run into this thread, then it'll be complete.

Saturday it is. I really wanted to watch Friday, but I have no idea when I'll be getting knocked out of the APA tournament and I'll have family coming from SoCal - they should be gone by Saturday afternoon.

Maybe the AZB guys are the most powerful.. they could take this thread out like it never existed.

Yes, I think Mr.Wilson is the most powerful man in pool... he who wields the mighty Kabong Hammer!

Charlie Williams -powerful ?

He must be very powerfully at a recent tournament in New Iberia , La., he threatened to call a foul on Jacob Pennison because Jacob had to urinated and wanted to go to the men's room, LOL ! Now, that is POWERFUL !!!
