Is it difficult to put on an cue wrap (like, Irish Linen) without any experience?

[QUOTE
Watch Darcy's UTube video and you will see how to secure a wrap without drilling holes at either end of the cue.

Hey Blue Hog ridr

Do you think you can provide a link to this video? I have not been able to find it.

Thank you.

Thanks for posting the link.
I thought it was in my signature but I use my phone so I can't see :)

No Problem.

I never used toothpicks or the pining method. I go to great lengths to
make my cues as solid as I can.
I see no reason to go drilling holes if they don't need to be there.

Here's a great clip of Ernie Gutierrez talking cues.
About half way in he talks about toothpicks acting like a wedge and splitting cues apart.

It's about an hour and a half and well worth a view!

That is the same method used when putting eyelets on fishing rods etc (to put the thread on and secure it)

I down loaded the video the first time I saw it. Directly after, I did a wrap on a jump cue using this method and it worked perfect.

Old Japanese trick. They used to wrap shovel handles and other tools with leather thongs.

Nice vid Darcy, I'll have to try it. I've removed wraps and wondered how the tail end was secured. I've always drilled mine. I'll have to try the glue stick instead of Elmers and water also. Very good.

you can do it, BUT:

i don't believe you will be happy with the results the first first time out. it isn't rocket science, for sure. people build fishing rods with a phone book for tension on a spool of thread in a coffee cup with a rod sitting in cutouts on a banana box. check out the mentioned youtube video about wrapping. if you try it, don't put any glue on at first . see how it goes and unwind when you think you are ready to go for good. you can use masking tape to tape the thread to the middle of the wrap for convenience then trim after you get the thread started. i have a rod lathe but can do just as quick a job(on rods) with homemade setups i have, turning by hand. Mudhole(a rodbuilding supplier) has a video showing a wrap being done on a rod; showing the easy way to start the thread with masking tape.
