Is it just me? (B.S. in the texas open chat)

I really enjoyed watching the stream from the Texas Open this weekend (thanks bigtruck and all the sponsors) In the past I've also enjoyed "chatting" with the viewers as we watched various streams together... However this time there was WAY TO MUCH B.S. to even enjoy or chat with like minded folks. I know anytime there is a "free" stream and people link in from other places you never know what your going to get, but this time it was almost too much to handle. As much as I would have liked to talk with folks that I know/don't know about the matches, for the most part I went full screen and didn't participate in the chat much at all. Seems like there was an unusual amount of B.S. so much that you couldn't keep up with actual q and a, or even follow the thoughts of those that actually had observations or something constructive to say. I am certainly not complaining and fully appreciate being able to sweat the action from my recliner but jeeeeez. Am I the only one that felt that way?

Hey, either this, or no "people" at all. C'mon, they're just having a little fun.. whether it's BS or not. You will encounter people like this when the mainstream will get alot bigger by time. You can't always have things the way you expected them to be. More people will mean that there will be alot more of those non-billiard related chattering. What do I do? (Excactly as you did and) Just ignore them or just take a peak and enjoy their jiber jabering. BTW, I was SlickRick_Vyper in the UStream chatroom and I really enjoyed watching that tournament. BigTruck Ray, if you are watching this post, thanks alot for streaming this awesome tournament and for the following through shoutout to my friend, Sylver!

the numbers on this stream were pretty high, so you are bound to get a few that may be annoying and fortunately very few crossed the line.

you also need to add the fact that truck was recording all the matches and for the continuity of the recording could not respond to all the questions, so the viewers felt they had to ask multiple times.

with all the good players there, there was also a lot of folks looking for action.

bottom line (for me any way) is when the stream numbers are high some of us regulars just don't chat as much and the others just get type happy. but as long as they don't cross the line on what is expected of them, they can stay.

in a perfect world the sponsors would recognise the quality of the numbers over the quantity of the numbers, but right now this isn't the case.

Rick,

You're welcome. I like your attitude too! ;)

At one point there were about 1,500 people on at one time with over 100 logged in to chat. When this happens it can go pretty fast. I do police the chat room for anyone that is not having fun. I am proud to say, there was very little smack talking and offensive comments the entire weekend.

I like to keep the chat fun and interesting, the best I can, and this weekend we had a really great bunch of viewers!

Thanks to you guys and everyone who stopped by.

Ray

ten ahead

would someone tell me who won the match between Jeanette Lee
and Vivian Villarreal thanks in advance oops37

That's what happens when something becomes popular. The chat room was crowded because there were a lot of people watching.

I too didn't care for the majority of the chat during this streaming either. I simply went to full screen and ignored it. With that many people watching, you're bound to have a few idiots in there. Every crowd has them.

Kudos to BigTruck for the quality of the streaming too! A job well done!!

Private chat rooms that are by invitation only is the answer. In order to get in, you have to behave yourself in regular chat for awhile. If you get out of line in private chat, out you go.

It would most likely take an extra moderator or two, but I'm sure there are plenty of regulars who would be willing to do that, myself included.

If it isn't an option now, maybe Ustream will add it in the future - do they have a place where you can request features in future updates?

I watched full screen mostly, too. But I did not use mute. I thought the announcers did a great job, especially considering the long hours. Ashley did a fine job (her last name is a little difficult, I'm sure Ray can spell it by now, don't know about pronouncing it).

I did not make it all the way to watch the finals. One observation, this marathon last day definitely has an effect on the outcome. Chris Bartram played well and was a deserving winner, and I'm sure his stamina helped him in the later rounds. I would rather see the the last few rounds with the players a little more rested and played at a better hour. The TD does the best he can with the setup available, but using a few more tables would probably let this tournament finish up at an earlier hour, with more people watching (both live and online), and probably display the player's best games, if the are fresher.

I agree! the commentary was really good. Everyone did a great job! Thanks again to Bigtruck and the whole crew. BTW my feed was great the ENTIRE TIME!
