Is it possible on some tables the wing ball just can't go?

I've already cried about this to the forum but apparently I didn't pay attention the first time so I'm back at it >_<

All I want to do is make the wing ball consistently. I have the videos of guys doing it 50 times in a row and I watched joe tucker's racking secrets over and over and understand it completely.

I practiced for a solid 2 hours just breaking 9b. Buddy racked for me. And in that time I made 2 wing balls. Maybe one more that got kissed out.

I hit 'em soft. I hit 'em medium. I hit 'em hard. I started at about 1 diamond off the rail. I moved in a bit. I moved out a bit. I moved in and out further. I broke from the rail. I used no english, no draw or follow, and I parked whitey many times.

It just. doesn't. go. It hits high time after time. Only once did it hit low. It just flies into the same 3 inch section of rail and NOTHING I do seems to alter it. I know I have to get the ball below it moving a millesecond before the wing ball itself but for whatever reason I can't.

So, what is it? We tried our hardest to rack and the equipment is pretty good. Balls clean. Rack area isn't too dimpled. Cloth is just a few months old. The rack is a plastic POS but we worked with it until every ball is clearly frozen. Are some tables just useless for it? Do I need a Delta-13 and new balls? Should I have tried the other side? Should I have tried slamming 'em? Just how much does speed matter anyway? I had the impression that once you have the sweet spot, you can use whatever speed. In the shane vs. donny match they both break from the same spot and both hard and soft breaks got the same result.

Help a 9b scrub out.

Donny was racking his own and always broke at the same med speed. He also broke from the same spot and had the balls in the same order each break.

You may have to twist the rack slightly to consistently make the wing ball.

Here's a quote from Andy Lincoln from another thread. Andy used the Rack-M-Rite Racking Template to tap his home table.

The 9 ball break being lucky discussion is absurd with a good rack. As Bob mentioned the wing ball goes in. I've broken 100 consecutive tight racks and made the wing 96. I missed a couple while I was over focusing on the 1 ball in the side (which went in 31 times). Speed of the break is immaterial for the wing ball and even 1 in the side. I made both several times breaking at about 12 miles per hour (just over stop shot speed on the break). In a tight rack the wing ball goes in based on where you hit the 1 ball.

Andy

Breaking from the side rail hitting straight into the 1 ball you should nearly always make the inside wing ball if the rack is actually frozen.

I wish I was there, good chance to learn something. If you can shoot a video I may be able to help, can't promise but many times I can tell what's happening that way. 10-20 breaks should do the trick.

Thanks for the replies so far. Joe, I will do my best to get you a video. I know if anyone can figure it out, you can.

smooth: I won't voluntarily twist a rack, that's cheating :P but you have a good point about the balls being in the same order. Someone jokingly suggested that I should also make sure the numbers are facing up since "they say" balls are a tiny bit wider where the numbers are. I'm planning on trying both of those things next time.

david and teaz: I may buy one of those template things, I suspect I'm not getting them really tight. Or I'll bite the bullet and get a Delta-13.

Tony: yeah, it's on the spot. Unfortunately I'm not missing by a little or rattling the wing ball... more like 3-4 inches high every time.

Me too. I have the same problem. I tapped the table and the wing ball still wont go from the left side. Right side no problem. No matter what I do from the left it wont go. And the left is where I feel more comfortable breaking so I have better control.

maybe creedo will put some vids up so we can examine them. Maybe its something were doing
