Is it possible to convert irish linen to wrapless?

I have just received a custom cue that I like a great deal except the Irish linen wrap is too slick for my taste.

The finish of the cue seems much more to my liking as a grip texture than the wrap so I am now curious if converting it to wrapless is possible.

Can anyone please enlighten me on this subject?

You would have to have the handle section replaced by a cuemaker could cost you couple hundred bucks, the cue would have to be taken apart and a new piece put in, then turned true to match the rest of the butt section, then it would have to be refinished,:grin:

Another option might be to have a finish put over the existing wrap to give you a wrapless feel.

Wrap less would be slicker, which you don't want. The conversion would not be worth the cost, if done correctly. A switch to Elephant would be my recommendation.
 
You can try a 3 cushion cue rubber sleeve. They cost $3 and slip over your cue, providing an absolutely non-slip surface.
 
If you decide to change the handle, it could change the hit. If you finish over the wrap, it could be a little tricky to get right. You could change it to leather of some kind, which would work if you like leather wraps. You could also take off the linen and depending on what wood is underneath (sometimes purpleheart....) finish could be built up to match the rest of the cue....but it could just be an ugly piece of maple or even laminated maple. Or, you could sand the wrap just a little so that it's not quite as smooth or put on a new linen wrap that isn't worn in.

to add to that you can also use whats called Penrose surgical tubing in 1 1/4" size it comes in 2ft sections for a buck or so from any local medical supply. Works really sweet and goes on easy and takes off the same, just put it on like you do a jimmy hat and take off the same. They last about 6months.

You may want try a stacked leather wrap from Tiger they look GREAT!!! and can be finished. It may also not affect the resale value of the cue.....Just my 2.....Ray
 
If you want the feel of a wrapless cue then just have a quality repairman seal the wrap with cue finish. It will still look pretty much the same, but feel like an all wood cue.

I read elsewhere on the forum that a new Irish linen wrap often becomes less slippery over time. Possibly with a bit more use the problem may take care of itself. If not, I'll have a tough decision to make.

The fact that I have been using house cues for the past several years is probably also causing a bit of an adjustment period.

IDIOT'S DELIGHT: put the cue in the trunk of your car, sell the car, buy another cue....any other option than any other person suggest to you if NOT VALID....you have been f#$*ed because you did not know what you wanted in the first place. Got a problem with my answer call me at 734-428-1161
