Is Karl Boyes à complete moron?

In this video Karl Boyes "reviews" a cheap carbon fiber shaft from China. A few "pearls" coming out of his mouth:

- He refers to deflection as "throw"?!
- Carbon shafts have low deflection because they are "stiff"?!
- He refers to the tactile sensation of the shaft not gliding easily as matt /matte?!
- He roughens the tip with coarse sandpaper and he proceeds to do the same to the entire side of the tip?!

ask him next time you see see him

To me, throw, push, and deflection are synonyms.
It is a bit weird i find. Pool terminolgy can differ from area to area in Canada based on how strong a snooker community there is. There is definitely some overlap with terms, and some are completely different. i was actually thinking about this the other night, wondering if a pool terminlogy diction thread would be useful.

When I watched that video, I noticed he described some things in ways I would have considered different if not outright inaccurate. Creating a thread just to call out those differences is a bit pedantic and to suggest he might be a complete moron comes off as high self aggrandizing, like you’re trying to make yourself look smart by calling him dumb. I don’t think that’s a good look.
I have heard him call a cross side bank with draw, wait for it, "a double to the middle with screw". He is from another country that speaks a little differently, hardly makes him a moron. People seem to like him as an announcer as far as I can tell, I doubt like hell that he is stupid.

I agree. Middle pocket/side pocket. Pot the ball; shoot the ball. Cannon, screw, plant. Bridge; rest. Best of 21/ race to 11.

Speaking of race to 11, the Shanghai Masters final is today, Judd Trump v. Shaun Murphy. Session 1 of 2 began at 2 a.m. Eastern and ended with Judd on top, 7-3. Session 2 of 2 begins at 7:30 Eastern. American Matchroom.live subscribers can watch the action live.

Trump wins 11-5.

My answer is no, he is not.
Granted, I have never met him so I am going off interviews and such for reference.
The thread title suggests OP needs to be more respectful.
Karl was once world-class.
It's no wonder the pros no longer visit this place.

Sounds like unintentional side. ..
When the cue ball is struck to the left or right of center, the initial path of the cue ball is not parallel to the line of the cue stick. The divergence of the cue ball's path goes by several names.

In the US:
cue ball deflection
squirt -- a term first introduced in the Standard Book of Pool and Billiards

In the snooker-playing areas (I thnk):
throw
throw off
???

The effect is to the opposite side as "swerve" and sometimes the two effects are confounded. It happens on all shots with sidespin.

à is not an English word. I don't understand the title.

Heh, I did sort of the same thing on a title a couple weeks ago. Turns out it's real easy (for me, at least) to have the iPhone keyboard set to Spanish and not notice 'til it's too late.
