It is a bit weird i find. Pool terminolgy can differ from area to area in Canada based on how strong a snooker community there is. There is definitely some overlap with terms, and some are completely different. i was actually thinking about this the other night, wondering if a pool terminlogy diction thread would be useful.
three things:
1. CF shafts play better than wood by about 10-15% (meaning it takes 10-15% less effort to move the CB around).
in other words energy transfer is 10-15% higher with CF? would be interesting to see that new japanese robot compare LD wood shafts with CF shafts
I have heard him call a cross side bank with draw, wait for it, "a double to the middle with screw". He is from another country that speaks a little differently, hardly makes him a moron. People seem to like him as an announcer as far as I can tell, I doubt like hell that he is stupid.

Is deflection not a type of "throw"? I'd never heard the term "deflection" before people started talking about "low deflection" cues.

Here in the US…
Deflection = CB pushed offline by stick with off center contact.
Throw = OB pushed offline by CB with spin or off center contact.

When the cue ball is struck to the left or right of center, the initial path of the cue ball is not parallel to the line of the cue stick. The divergence of the cue ball's path goes by several names.
In the US:
cue ball deflection
squirt -- a term first introduced in the Standard Book of Pool and Billiards

The effect is to the opposite side as "swerve" and sometimes the two effects are confounded. It happens on all shots with sidespin.

Heh, I did sort of the same thing on a title a couple weeks ago. Turns out it's real easy (for me, at least) to have the iPhone keyboard set to Spanish and not notice 'til it's too late.
