I believe their cut is 3% of the sale price.

There are plenty of threads about Paypal....some good, some bad. The bad gets more replies.

I, for one, love Paypal. It's worth it to take the 3% cut for ease of use....in my opinion.

That said....be sure to keep close watch on your account. Plenty of scam artists out there...and a few folks really hate the Paypal system...so, depending on who you sell to, you may have to find a different avenue.

Good luck on your sale, whichever way you decide to do it.

i just signed up for a premier account. is that higher than the basic account you were talking about duke? i was thinking of selling one of my break cues either my arnot or my predator bk2. and or my darrin hill cue. i like it a lot but i really need to get a car and every little bit helps

I would normally say yes paypal is great. However just last week I had my first encounter with "Paypal sucks".

I had a buyer file an "Item not as described" complaint about A USED ITEM THAT I LISTED "AS IS". Paypal immediately put a $-177.00 balance on my account.
They are currently reviewing my case. According to what I've read, I'll be told to refund her money and all she has to do is prove that she shipped something back to me. Which will undoubtedly be an empty box.
She gets the item and a refund. How lovely.

Check out paypalsucks.com and read the horror stories.

I hope that it works out for you. I can't imagine trying this type of stuff knowing that the seller has my name and my address.

Hopefully you have pictures of the item you sent her. Set up a file with pictures and all the communications between you & her & Pay Pal. If you sent the item "insured", it would not be unreasonable to expect her to return it "insured". In that event, you're covered. If she returns an item, different from what you sent, or an empty box, she's guilty of mail fraud. Pursue it with the Postal Inspector.

Maybe I've been lucky, or maybe just cautious enough, but in all the years I've had a Premier account I've had zero problems.

Paypal is an easy way to become a credit card vendor, mirroring small business credit card accounts. Individuals have learned what small businesses have known for years, there is always risk in accepting payment as a vendor.

Know the rules, follow them, and use reasonable precaution dealing with people. I have not had a problem with them. I consider paypal to be a convenient and reasonable asset in making online sales and purchases.

Ps. Hal, I am 100% confident it will be resolved in your favor. There has to be substantial misrepresentation for them to permanently reverse the charge. I personally advertise that I will take back items after an inspection period less shipping cists (round trip) to avoid such disputes.

Paypal

I have to agree with most here. Paypal is the way to go.
I have had nothing but success with my account. I, for one, have both a bank account and a credit card on my account. I have a had a few bad ebay transactions go bad and my credit card company handled it perfectly.

Let me know if you have any questions about it. I would most surely say you will be happy with setting up a paypal account.

PayPal?

There's no Pal involved
I closed my account, when you "Accept" their statement to deposit money in your account, they can also have the right to deduct money without your permission. I sold 4 OEM BMW wheels and tires on Ebay for $1.032.00 in November, in Janurary the buyer claimed fradulent use of his C.C.
PayPal withdrew $1,032 from my bank account.
I gave a PayPal supervisor the PayPal's supervisor the UPS investigator's name and phone number, Also the driver gave the time the wheels were signed for.
PayPal could have cared less, I gave the supervisor the buyer's phone number and told him to call and the buyer would verify he had both his money back and he was in possesion of my wheels and tires, the answer the PayPal supervisor gave was, How could I be sure of who I was talking to over the phone? I replied to ask him the security questions he gave answeres to when he opened his account.
I called 3 times and spoke to a supervisor, each time the answer was the same, to bad, contact law enforement in California. NO MORE PayPal for me!!!!!!!!!!

All she has to give paypal is a tracking number proving that something was mailed. It doesn't even have to arrive. The fact that she mailed it is good enough.

By the way, she had the item for over a month before I heard anything from her.

Actually, they say that for a standard account the cut is 2.9% + .30. I recently sold a factory manual for an HD Sportster and they took closer to 5%! I have gotten to where, especially when it comes to eBay sales, I will only accept a Postal M.O. or Cashiers Check. Since eBay owns PayPal, by the time they get done taking their piece of the pie, it's a pretty big piece. They get you coming and going!!

i'm reading a lot more cons than pros. it's making me uneasy just thinking about it. from what i've read there seems to be mostly honest people buying here on az

I'll tell u this be sure you are shipping to a verified address, if not paypal can really **** you when recieving payment. I sold a computer for 1700.00 but I delivered in person since we didn't live far apart but I was paid through paypal. Since the guys account was verified and he paid me with a stolen credit card paypal has made me payback the 1700.00 back to them and I lost my computer. Which was a power mac worth 2500.00, But if you read the rules and provide a shipping address and the buyer is verified then paypal is excellent if not you have a possiblility of getting screwed.

I had & used PayPal for 5 yrs flawlessly before my "problem" and that one experience wiped out all the good having PayPal did in that one transaction, and talking with a PayPal supervisor was a joke, they could care less and just play Cover Their Ass
