I think I don't know how good Alex is. I don't think I am the only one either. Why would any one play him One Pocket for money?
I think Alex has the pool scene and how to make money at it figured out. Is he a very smooth modern day pool hustler? He may be the best all around player right now. ------> Yes, lets get back to the original point of this thread!
It certainly would seem like he is, doesn't it? Although many top players, like Alex, seem to have that little something extra, that tends to make other very good players not play their best game against them..You can call it the "Efren, or SVB factor" for want of a better description.
But Alex seems to have added something to his demeanor at the table, that those two great players do not subscribe to..He may not even need it to unnerve his opponent, but Alex is an
extremely slow player..He tends to spend (at times) an eternity making some very obvious shot selections, and then just when you think he's about to pull the trigger..he will get up and start all over again!..He can also take forever, just to rack the balls!
Slow play never really bothered me, but then I can't recall ever playing someone as deliberate as Alex..He is a very talented player, and I would hate to think he uses this as a 'sharking' tactic.. But I can certainly see where his maddening pace of play, might have that effect on many of his tougher opponents..I also enjoy watching a 1P stream between two good players, but I have never been able to watch an entire match between Alex and Cory Deule without falling asleep! (Cory plays
almost as slow as Alex) :boring2: :boring2: :boring2:
Alex reminds me of another agonizingly slow player, from the 60's, Frank "Bananas" Rodriguiz..Jack Perkins made a humorous comment one time, during a one pocket match with Bananas..He said, "For Chrissake, I almost hate to put the SOB in a trap, because I know it'll be 20-30 minutes before he shoots"!
