Yes, it is a good thing. They will only develop a dominant market position if all of their products are exceptional, but if that happens, I do not see a problem. So, from top sponsorships, to cues, to racks, tables, balls... now entire tournaments that sport ONLY their products? It seems they are now attempting to establish a monopoly over every aspect of the sport of Pro Billiards? But is this really a good thing?
My opinion is the opposite. I haven’t played on their 9’. The 7’ I thought exuded cheap. They play meh. I about cut a finger on the corner of a cushion. I wondered how cloth and rubber can do that. I think Diamonds and Rassons are both better. I think I’d rather have a Valley. Valleys are certainly built more rugged, and the one I played on recently with good rubber played better than the predators. Only advantage of the predator is a better Aramith cue ball. , Diamond, and Rasson also are commercial sized 7’. Pretty sure the SAM/ Predator is home size.I spent 30-something hours on Predator Apex tables last week. They are far more satisfying to play on than the Diamonds I use in two leagues every week. Banks are natural, requiring no "Diamond compensation" to hit the pocket because the rails are correct. You can make sharp cuts to the pockets without fear of the Diamond rattle because the shelves are correct. I watched them switch an entire rail-set from 4 1/2" pockets to 4 1/8" in less than ten minutes. The leveling system seems pretty well designed too.
I know she's biased, but Jasmin Ouschan likes the tables immensely. Alex Pagulayan agreed.
Maybe making the tables with steel instead of wood is a good thing. I'd buy one if I was looking for a new table.
yeah, and they didn’t run the heater. Oh well. It was good to have an opportunity to hit a few around. And pool players who haven’t been exposed to it at all were exposed to it and could take the opportunity to try a few.It was not well received, though much of that was result of roll-off, which could be solely due to set-up.
I hope predator gets back into 3c events though. They have a lot of fan players there.
Cheer up, it’s not that bad.I actually kinda like the shootout - I wish it was at least 10 shots from various places, maybe even with more points awarded for "hard" shots.
I'm kind of a purist and still like the shootouts, if for nothing else the excitement of it. Let's face it, most runouts are boring because the players MAKE IT LOOK boring.
I love races to 100/120 or whatever because I love watching the best players against eachother as much as possible - I'd love races to 1,000 because of that. If you don't want to watch the race to 1,000 STFU and watch the last 20 racks or first 20 racks or whatever.
All I know is, I'd love to see Harold worst, Mosconi etc playing 1,000's of racks.
All the dummies want it to be over. We are being given the gift of watching Filler, Fedor, Shane, Kaci, Ko's, Chang, Chohan, Billy(banks) from the comfort of our homes and you idiots want it to be a race to 3 alternate break.
I swear to God we are living through the most ignorant period of time in our history
He’s a brilliant guy. Absolutely brilliantKarim has done an excellent job
It's about time we got a shorter shot clock, too many take every second every shot.Hey if their products are really that good, then I guess it is only good.
I really don't like 2 things I see with the 'new' format now though:
1. Ridiculously short shot clocks.
2. Super short sets.
I think both impact the quality, and the scope and range of play, particularly the super short shot clock, which severely impacts what players can do. Now they can only shoot shots that require little or no thought. It is like quantity over quality, and the game is now "Speed Pool'.
I would like to see long sets (9-11 games, or even up to 15 or more for finals), or multiple 6-7 game sets, 2 out of 3). And for the shot clock:
A 45-60 sec shot clock, 90 seconds after the break, with TWO 30 second extensions per game. This what I would like to see. Especially for 8 ball.
I have played a few hours on a Predator carom table and it plays really well and true compared to other carom tables. It was not well received, though much of that was result of roll-off, which could be solely due to set-up.
I hope predator gets back into 3c events though. They have a lot of fan players there.
One thing: they need MUCH better tech support. Kim Newsome basically knows nothing about cues and will not admit it. Some of the stuff she's told me and others is completely wrong. I don't own any Pred stuff but do appreciate the time/$$$ they put into pool. He’s a brilliant guy. Absolutely brilliant
I just know he’s a brilliant marketer and promoter. I’m not aware of the day2day operations or customer support they provide. I’m not a customer for their products. One thing: they need MUCH better tech support. Kim Newsome basically knows nothing about cues and will not admit it. Its key to have knowledgeable people answering CS phones/messages. You know all about this in your line/lines of work over the yrs. She(Newsome) all but wanted to fight me over some aspects of shafts which she knows little about. The actual engineers need to sit down all their CS reps. and teach them about their own products.I just know he’s a brilliant marketer and promoter. Best
Fatboy <——-biz man, not a customer![]()
For decades there was a single company that controlled cue sports in the US. That company determined who could play in the world championships. Eventually they lost interest, and I think cue sports in the US suffered a lot for that.
I don't see Predator becoming the same kind of autocrat.
What's an example of something she told you wrong? One thing: they need MUCH better tech support. Kim Newsome basically knows nothing about cues and will not admit it. I would love to make 2k per day.. Just sayin'You know what I dont like?...the best player in the world running through a decent field over the course of 3 days and walking away with a measley $6k purse.
Anyone who is cool with progressing the game beyond that bullshit is ok with me, and making it free to watch to boot.
If you dont like their products, dont buy them, theres tons of options out there. But I can respect what theyre doing for the game itself.
