Is the Cue Market Dead Now and Forever?

Let's not forget about people not wanting to pay for what a cue is worth. I see and have experienced low ball offers on stuff from day one. I would lay money that some of these folks don't even have the money to cover the low ball offer if called out to do so.

WE are why the cue market is dead no matter how you slice it and WE are the only people that can fix it.

I have been buying, selling and trading cues for the past 12 years. Each year the market has gotten progressively worse. It appears to be impossible to sell cues for real money anymore. I've seen the same cues being offered for sale at reasonable prices for several months in the Wanted/For Sale section of AZ and not selling. Is the cue market dead now and forever?

I came back here after about two years and I could swear I see the same old cues up on sites like cornerstone, etc. and it looks like they never moved them ! Same cues running around for sale over and over again Some people are hoarding the good ones I think !

I can attest that the Cornerstone site changes.....I bought my Prewitt cue there last year and I went to use Bill's great trade back policy towards an $8k Ginacue but that cue was gone, i.e., sold. I went after a $6k TAD on Bill's site and that cue was sold by the time I reached Bill.........still have my Prewitt cue and I can get 100% trade-in value with Bill anytime..........which for me means 6/1/16 since the CA ivory ban will be in place on 7/1/16 ( CA AB-96). I follow Bill's site closely and I can state with certainty there is turnover reflected on Bill's website inventory. Only Bill would know the actual reason for cues being removed from his site but I presume it's from cues being sold since Bill seldom, if ever, handles consignment cues.

On the contrary Bill does handle cues on consignment as it's part of his business model. That high end Craig Peterson ($7750.00) Bill has on his site for some time now is an example. I wanted to do a trade plus cash however Bill stated the owner wanted cash only.

There's nothing to kill a buyer's enthusiasm like his buying a cue and then not getting delivery.
Kinda takes the motivation away from the market, I'd think. I hear these stories all the time here
and know myself about those. I'm playing with a cracked up sneaky pete Pred butt with a
repaired custom shaft that's just hangin' on for dear life. My break/jump cue is a cue tech, sawed off after the original ferrule broke off.

I'm good with that until it all breaks apart, then off to Mueller's for some cheap shit. No more
custom or expensive cues for me, ever. I'm too old to wait for 'em. Sorry.

I believe the az market died once the for sale forum changed back awhile ago!!! if you look there is 1/8th the people here there was 2 years ago!! but pearsonally i have sold more this year that the 2 years previous combined and i still have 3 months to go! it is alive and well.. some makers are dead in the water though. and others are blowing out!!

I do not believe for a second that Cornerstone has sold more cues this year than in the two previous years combined, and nobody should. The cue market is dead. Look at all the cues that have been bumped by the sellers dozens of times because they can't sell them. I'm sure that Uncle Sam would love to know that Cornerstone is killing it when it comes to cue sales so he can expect his slice of the pie. Enough said.

Mike, what purpose does this post serve? You can't possibly know what Bills year was like...Second, Bill is right. Nobody is buying mid high to high end cues here on AZ. I posted two high end "steals" and all I got was tire kickers. They almost immediately sold through FB though. I appologize in advance if this offends anyone but all the wannabe's, tire kickers, and low end jealous whiners that didnt buy nice cues in the first place influenced the powers that be here to screw things up and now the AZ market place is dead. I dont even bother looking anymore.. I sense a little jealousy Mike. If your going to succeed here, on AZ, you better be selling Predators and Lucassi's at discount prices OR be a lot more selective on the high end cues you inventory and use more social media... Either way I wish you luck Mike....

Cue market

I think overall interest in pool is on the decline . I am very cautious when I order cues now because of a few cue makers not being stand up people. That being said the cue makers I had trouble with were to concerned about the cue being worth more on the secondary market than the original price. That alone suggest there is a strong market for collecting.

When we do shows I am asked often if we do business with other dealers . The answer is yes . Bill of cornerstone and I have done many cue deals and it's strange that he is under fire so often for simply being positive. I can't speak to his cue sales as I am not his accountant but I can say the deal we are working now has been on hold because a couple of the cues have been sold while I was trying to pick a second cue to complete transaction. He has been patient with my indecision as well.

I still enjoy collecting cues and we started the website not to be cue dealers for profit but as a way to move some cues to a new home while being able to design and have new cues built . In the last five years I have been busy with work and have had the time to collect but I try to do a least partial trades now when I see a new cue I want not for monetary reasons but simply because I am not one the fortunate guys selling cues.
Thanks matt

Cue market

Maybe dead but I posted 3 cues on here last night late. They all had decent pics, good descriptions and I try to go out of my way to work with people. As of right now, all 3 have been sold and 2 have been paid for through paypal. I'm working on payment for the 3rd. In my opinion, if you price your stuff reasonably, you can sell cues. Also, it seems to me they are selling fine on the facebook boards....

Which is why everyone went to ETFs for index investing (rather than a passive index fund).

Back on topic, imo, anyone who puts big money into cues as a money making investment needs to buy my bridge, to add to their portfolio.

Eric

You don't have the faintest idea what you are talking about. I am not buying your fukn bridge and I have done incredibly well in the high end cue market. You just gotta know what the hell your doing. I for sure don't need your advice.

I too, have done well "flipping" cues over the years.

Lot's of good advice here, IMO. Most of it I agree with, but those I dont agree with I will refrain from throwing rocks.

1. There are VERY few collectable cues out there.

2. Lots of folks want to tell me how much they paid for their cue and expect at least that much from me when I buy it. I have to make a profit, and there are a lot of cues out there.

3. Szam, Boti, Gina, etc. I dont think there is a problem selling.

4. Just because a cue plays great, it doesnt mean it is worth more. Advice on cue buying, buy what sells. Sure you might pay more, but when you want to unload it, it is still desirable.

5. Folks are broke, and IMO times are going to get A LOT tougher. Gambling in pool IMO didnt go away because of other gaming, it went away because lack of disposable income.

There are cues that I want to buy, but the dang owners wont sell.

I get asked about selling some of my cues, and I guess most of them I would let go, but I don't need the money, so I am not a motivated seller. I dont "flip" cues anymore. The only cue I wouldnt sell would be the Schick cue.....and several of the other cues are probably worth more.

I wish everyone the best of rolls,

Ken
