Is there a comprehensive book/video on one pocket?

The recent thread about the Winning One pocket book has me thinking.
Is there a comprehensive book or video out there that really and I mean really covers the game. Like I mentioned I did not think the Winning one pocket book was that good. It was a beautiful quality production but that was about it. May be time for someone with the cred to write such a book or make a video. There certainly seems to be a demand.

I've seen a few books and DVDs, not impressed either. I wish Phil Capelle would have done a 1 pocket book in the same manner as his thorough books on 8-ball, 9-ball, and straight pool. THAT would be something excellent to read...

True, but they just skim the surface, they may show a hand full of shots. I have seen most of what is out there and it goes from OK to worthless. There needs to be a work that embraces the philosophy of the game and it's play. A real Bible of one pocket a new player can build his game around.

Well, Grady himself rated my 1 pocket prowess as "lingering somewhere between complete ignorance and total incompetence" ... so with that input ... I think I'll stick to teaching 14.1 ...

I recall someone talking about a 1 pkt book, it was so expensive ... hundreds of dollars, that I lost interest quickly. :)

I think the DVD route offers much better insight that what's available in books.

Anyway, lots of the older DVDs from AccuStats with Danny, Billy, and Grady together commentating hold a wealth of information in their trains of thought and shot selections.

Some of the older DVDs are not the best quality, but they are great sources. Hopkins vs Cook comes to mind. These are two very orthodox players being commentated by those three guys who all hold their own unique perspectives on shot selection.

I think DVDs with Chris Gentile also offer some great insight to the game.

I realize you inquired about books ... but I haven't found anything really in depth. I think it's pretty hard to cover as much as the actual positions discussed on DVD, maybe that's why books don't really get in detail.

And hence your previously-expressed disdain to the great game of One Pocket, Dave.

The best Onepocket video I have ever come across was done by the late Willie Jopling. The video is no longer being made or published and his family (very old people) wanted nothing to do with continuing it. Willie and I exchanged DVDs while he was alive (mine for his), and so I still have a few copies left to sell.

It is a 2 DVD 4 hr treatise, converted from the original VHS shooting about 30 years ago. The problem with the DVD, and probably why it never became a big seller, is that Willie's presentation was slow, dry, and boring. Much too matter-of-fact, and Willie had no kind of reputation. He did play pretty good, but he was an old school hustler and stayed well under the radar -- but he did know the game.

However, if you can stay awake and just really pay attn to what he is delivering, he covers the basics of onepocket better than anyone else up until now.
