Hi Guys,

I'm curious if there is a grading scale for ivory and does this grade affect how it hit on a cue? I was told that depending on what part the ivory was cut from the tusk that the ferrule will hit differently, is this true?

I know the ivory ferrule that Pete Tascarella used look different and probably play different than the ivory ferrule that I get from Cue component. You can easily see the grain on the ferrule that Pete uses.

Thanks,
Duc.

The grain is more prevalent nearer to the outside surface of the tusk. I prefer my inlays to have grain & my ferrules to be cut from near the center...JER

I always ask for the "grainyer" ivory. I have been told by many that was "nerve ivory", near the center of the tusk.

It might be BULL$HIT, but that is what I have been told by several.

Just trying to help.
