Is there any problems with reducing the weight of the cue?

Let's say you want to reduce a 20 oz to 19 oz and the cue has the interchangeable weight system. If you were to bring the weight down one ounce would it be exactly the same as purchasing a stock 19 oz? Or would it be different since it started out as 20 oz?

Housecue,
To answer the original question you asked, yes it will be the same as if you originally purchased a 19 oz cue. As far as changing the balance point, I don't see that moving by more than 1/2" or so.

Food for thought : Let's say a builder, be it custom or production, builds 100 cues using the same mtrls. and specs on each cue. Chances are that very few of those cues will be of exact wght. as another in that group. It's just the nature of the beast. Wood is funny that way. Just as the overall wghts. of these cues will vary, so will the balance points.

Your primary concern is the wght. of the cue and the balance point should be considered secondary at best. If a precise balance point is a concern for you, there are ways to adjust that 'slightly' as well.

Wght. bolts are used to sell the same style of cue to a wider range of buyers, particularly when each of those buyers could potentially want a different wght. cue. So, if you want a 1 oz. lighter cue, change the wght. bolt. That's what it's there for.

I hope this gives you a better understanding.

1st off, you may already have the lightest weight bolt in your Q, now. If you can change the weight bolt, to a lighter one you will probably move the balance point about a 1/4" forward. You will not be able to notice the difference...JER

Thanks guys. I learn something new..

For now, I am going to keep my cue at 20oz, I'm starting to get the hang of it.

I have a Schon 19 7/8 weight, last night I bought another Schon at the pool room and the weight was 20 1/8, now I weighed it before I bought it, once I started playing it feels much lighter then my 1st Schon. How is that possible, is it the balance point. I weighed the cues with the same scale.
