Was wondering when people talk about THE HIT of a Particular Cue, is it Hype, or Personal Opinion.

I personally only have a FEW Cues from a Few Makers, so I am not no expert. Plus I have never hit a Cue Ball with over 10, or 15 Brands or Cues from 15 Makers.

So I kind of think all this Hit thing is kind of like asking what is your Favorite food, or Favorite Chinese Restaurants. it Personal Preference.

Favorite Food for me is Chinese, and Favorite Chinese Restaurant is a Little Hole in the Wall in San Francisco’s China Town, at the north End of China Town. Almost in North Beach.

don’t know the name of the place, but I can find it again, and will be eating there on my NEW TRIP to San Francisco.... ;)

Bruce,

Catch up with someone like Jazz and ask for help.

He could certainly help with direction. Might even have some goodies he could let you knock a few around with.

Knowing a bunch of guys at the pool halls will help with exposure to a variety of cues.

Most people playing with their cue are proud of that wood and love the compliments and opportunity to show it off :)

Well I know what feels good to me, and what does not. Like Chineese Food, each of us has our Favorite Resturants. No one is right, and no one is wrong, its a Personal liking, or Disliking.

Kind of like Wine. If it cost $25.00 a bottle, and you don't like it. But the $3.00 a bottle is your Favorite. There is ZERO Wrong with the $3.00 per Bottle Stuff, except it don't have BIG PRICE.... ;)

All I care about in a cue is: Straight, Weight, Deflection, Tip

How they feel really don't matter to me. All cues will play excellent if you learn how that cue plays. I do like to feel a solid hit but it means nothing to my game. Having said that, I have a great hitting cue :)

If you need the feel of the hit for mental feedback, I suggest hitting with a few good ones to get what you like. Otherwise, just get used to what you have and never change it.

the hit

I've said this time and again here on AZ, the hit can only be your choice, no one can feel it for you. Just you.
Hype with some folks or be reasonable, find out what YOU like. Recomendations are fine, but you decide.

Think Blud is an EXPERT, and his words are that of an Expert, and one hell of a Cue Builder... ;)

I would have to agree with Blud totally (of course). I have played with several different cuemaker's cues, and I also notice differences even among cues made by the same person. I think a lot depends on the different types of woods used, joint, and loads of other factors. People around here ask me all the time "Who makes the best cue?"....it is the one you can win with. How many times have you seen a really good player go into a slump and dump their cue, then they start to win again with another cuemaker's cue, and HE is the greatest, all of a sudden?

It has to be the car...can't possibly be the driver.....

have to have good balance and the right size shaft for ya if the cue fits your style of play then it is a good cue for you. I kind funny about my cues I like a 13 mm shaft and a 19.5 oz metel jointed cue on a 9 foot table. Then when I play on a bar table I like a 18.5 oz cue with a radial pin or a 3/10 10 and a 12.75 mm shaft I find these to work for me very good with the style of my play.lol and i like a bigger jump cue on the big table like a stealth jump cue lol this is just me thoe any other weired people out there like me lol.

The hit of a cue might be subjective but somehow those makers who make solidly built cues become famous for the hit of their cues.
No need to mention names but how come some makers' cues are sought after for their hit? While a ton of wallpaper looking cues linger on Ebay without anyone bidding on them close to their retail value?

Market Dictates Price, along with Supply & Demand... E-bay is a Good Bench Mark, but I have seen some SouthWests, Tads, and other Cues that I said to my self that will sell. But they still are For Sale.

Why they did not sell who knows.... Also a lot of E-bay Cue are just nothing more than a Retail outlet Expand there sales with an E-bay Store.

Than you got that recent Justis Case, put there by Jack that went for Close to Retail with a Wrong Name on it... :p

It's both hype and personal opinion. There are definitely different hits. It's personal opinion as to which one you like. To that end, the cuemakers should hype their product. Hopefully their hype will reach those that like their hit.

Think that would not be a Good thing for Me. :D

But let me Compare Cues to Cowboy Boots that was what I work for years.

One Brand, and only One Brand Noconas was all I would buy, because they fit my foot bests. .

Would not take a Justin, Dan Post or any other brand as a GIFT, as the only Brand that were totally comfortable on my Feet were Noconas.

Cues are a personal thing.... Like Cue weight... I seem to like lighter Cues better than I did year ago....
