ddadams

Absolutely love this cue.

I've read about how to tell the difference but I simply can't see a difference.

I really want to swap out to leather but if this happened to be Cortland I'd have to keep it obviously..

Agree with Jack, this looks like Blue Mountain.

The differences are, Cortland green specks are usually lighter in color than what you have, and the specks are more even and full in spacing. I believe there is a wrap within the Blue Mountain line that is lighter green in the specks, but yours looks like the darker green.

As examples, first picture is Cortland. Second picture is Blue Mountain.

Thank you both.

No......looks like Blue Mountain

Jack,

I was on your website earlier as I've always enjoyed your style of cases.

I had never seen Gabe Owen's case.

I honest to god have to say that is the most classy looking case I've ever seen.

Everything just WORKS on that. GORGEOUS case.

Here's Two Cortland Linen #9 Wraps

Here's two cues wrapped a year apart with Cortland Linen #9.....the propellor cue is from Bob owen (may 2014) and the other diamond sleeve is Jerry Rauenzahn (March 2015) and both cues have Cortland Linen #9 for its wrap. Whenever I want to restore the sheen and smooth finish,
I simply take a heavy smooth glass mug and heat rub the Cortland.......amazing how it brings it back to life and I may have to stop getting cues when the finite supply of Cortland is no more. I actually have a roll of Cortland Linen Brown Speck.........I've never seen brown speck Cortland.

Matt B.

p.s. To my eye, the linen photo you posted doesn't look like Cortland Linen.

I was in Fresno a few years ago and found a role of vintage Irish linen at a antique store, ten dollars for the whole spool. I don't know if it has any value for wraps but the spool looks cool and it seems to be the right size. Its a solid cream color with no specs.

Indeed....Cortland Made a Cream Color......

Did you get lucky and happen to have a label on the spool you found in Fresno?

Here's that rare brown speck I acquired while searching for some Cortland Linen #12 (black speck).

IMO....these pictures better illustrate the difference with the other linen which I think is Hurlbert or maybe Blue Mountain.

Yes it has a label and I have pics of it but it is snowing and I will need to work early in the am so I will sign off and catch up with the pics tomorrow:embarrassed2:

I asked this originally because I really want to put some leather on my Tibbitts, but wasn't going to change it if it was Cortland linen.

What would you guys choose?

Here are two pictures of the cue - one of the whole butt, another of the veneers so you can choose better.

And here is the whole post I made in the cue & case gallery forum thread with the original post of the cue. This post contains all of the options I was considering.

I want to get a matching 1x2 made out of whatever leather I get on the cue eventually as well. Just love this one so much.

I'm heavily debating changing the wrap on here.

What would you guys do? I'd LIKE to keep her all original but I'm really more of a leather guy. I'm very certain that I will never sell this unless Danny were to build me a personal cue. Even then I doubt I'd sell it. But you never know.

Anyways the options are,

Black Elephant Ear of course,

Chocolate Western Bull

Oil tanned Spanish Bull
http://www.superiorcues.com/SpBulOT.jpg

Oil tanned Bison

Black

Brown

Black Kangaroo

Never felt or seen a Kangaroo wrap. Anyone have any opinions on this?

Charcoal Grey Elephant Ear

I REALLY like the charcoal colored elephant ear. But I'm not sure how well it would look on the cue?

I'm a HUGE fan of how elephant ear feels. But anything oil tanned would be REALLY nice too.

Maybe I just need to start saving more and buy three or four of Danny's cues so I can have all the different wraps on different cues.

If only...

I'm a huge fan of BROWN leather wraps too.

What to do?!

Help! lol ;)

looks good to me
i can not claim to be an expert but it looks like cortland

even if it is not,i would keep it

I know it *looks* great with the linen.

I just prefer leather so much for playing.

I haven't bothered playing with any of my other cues except my Dmitry sneaky when I'm at bars and don't plan on getting any others now besides more of Danny's.

So I think I may change it.

I can't stand by and do nothing. I must protect that linen! Sell me the cue. I'll save it, lol.

Wraps

Anybody like this? I think it's the best stuff I've ever had a cue wrapped with.

It appears that the manufacturer of this product didn't pay too much attention to the braiding process as you can see by the unevenness of the green strand. For this reason, I don't care for it and would not use it on any of my cues.

I guess we can agree to disagree, respectfully. :) Best feeling stuff I've ever had my hands on.
