Ok, so As you probably know Earl Strickland won the US Bar Table Championship on Sunday. He gave me the big check they get at the end and signed it. My question is, Is this something to collect or worth anything? I also have one of Archers and thinking maybe I should get some from other players if possible. Whats you guys thoughts on this big check? I know if I twas the World Championship or maybe US Open it would be cool. Let me know, thanks

Something has a real chance of increasing in value if few people are collecting them which seems to be the case here.

Sounds like a great addition to a pool room. Framed up on the wall would look really nice.

Probably not worth much more than a Pro Signature in money value!

Very cool piece and I think perhaps one day it might be worth something. I remember seeing Mosconi's trophies on Ebay for sale years back, I saw his wife Flora earlier in that year at Atlantic City with her son and she is a lovely lady, hope she is still doing well. I know that his trophies were not going for quite what I expected them too ranging from $500 to $3500 depending on what it was and they were gorgeous trophies. I will start the bidding on this item at $100.

I'd take it to the bank and see how much they'll give you for it. That will give you a better idea of what it's worth.

Heya Mark, Ashi here.

Some day this will be a collectible - some pool room, hall of fame, memorabilia palace would love to have one of those giant checks. Keep it. Hold it. 10-20 years from now, who knows?

Mark,

Those could be valuable some day as already mentioned. It would help greatly to have each signed by the winner (Earl and Johnny in this case) and some other documentation as well. A news paper article, an article from AZ or any other pool magazine, dated and describbing the event and mentioning the winner would help prove the authentisity of the article. A picture of (Earl and/or Johnny)accepting the award and check would be great. The finals bracket sheet used at the tournament would be worth a lot too. Those checks are large enough you could probably mount those credentials right on the back.

I leared all of that watching The Antiques Road Show for the last four years. The actual artical is always worth something but the value increases with each piece of documentation that you can provide. So get it now, while you can. Might be hard to get (or cost alot) in 20 years.

As a person who deals in signed memorabilia, what you have in your possession is a very nice piece of billiard history that a lot of collectors would be willing to pay a pretty penny for.

Actually, it's just the opposite. If few people are collecting there isn't as much demand and the price is liable to go down. The more people who want an item, the more chance it will increase in value. I'd say something like this might be worth something in ten or more years, again depending on the number of people who want it.

Depends upon how much it is worth!!! :grin-square:

well i have some furbies and hummel figures for you. Ill even throw in a Tickle Me Elmo and some Franklin Mint stuff, all worth from 10-45% of their original prices.

If few are collecting, there is no supply! Then when they become nostalgic in 15-30 years-the prices go through the roof. Like the old baseball cards no one kept or their mom threw out. No supply=high prices.

Not to mention Sand Pails and Lunch Boxes. Anyone collect them way back?

You should know Tom, you charged me a pretty penny for an autographed Earl 9 ball.

Actually it was a fair price and worth every penny. I knew if I was going to have one in my shop, it was going to be Earl's.
If I had a pool hall, I wouldn't hesitate to put one of those on the wall.

A furbie, I remember when those first came out. You couldn't buy one if your life depended on it.

Good info guys, I appreciate it. I am not a collector of anything but I know that there are certain things that value and devalue things. Like if a autograph is to a certain person I think it takes the price down

Maybe you should auction the FAUX CHECKS off and use the money a good pool cause. You know like a FREE Admission to one of your CSI Clinic to a deserving player, or players depend on how much you raise. A player, or players without the means (aka GREEN) to attend on their own.

How good do you move? A real poolplayer would've had him sign the back of the check.....

As Toupee Jay says, the bank'll tell you what it is worth if he endorsed it!

Actually Bruce that was a good idea. I am all about trying to do something for pool. So heres what I suggest, you out bid Lenny for the $100 he offered just do $110 and I will take it. Then you have it to give away, auction or sell and then take those profits and give it to the BEF. Sound like a plan? Now we are playing with your money, how u feel about it? You were all happy about me giving away a pool school spot that costs me money so lets see you come off for just $110 to help pool... I got a feeling I'm gonna hear crickets right now,

It does take the price down and I have one like that. Even though its worthless, you couldnt buy from me for less than several thousand.
