IT Morphine pump and pool anyone?

What i've watched happen to my friend Rob is the chasing side effects syndrome. His doctors give him drugs to address the side effects of the morphine that have side effects of their own. They were also giving him muscle relaxers for back spasms that added their own side effects to the others. Loretabs on top of that. I swear some of the side effects are worse than the condition itself. Mentally, physically and even spirtually. This story goes on and on but you see my point. Please be very very careful what you let them give you. Even though doctors are very well educated they are still guessing how drugs effect you personally.

Its unbelievable How many people in usa take hydrocodone, vicodin etc when they don't need it. In europe those medicines are prescribed only if they Are really necessary ( for example cancer threatment).

Thats a good point Pulzcul.
I went to a pain management Dr. once, who prescribed a cocktail of drugs for me to ease the pain and also the discomfort of withdrawls, when trying to get off the Oxy. I was a f/n mess for a week. I went to a much better Dr. who freaked when he saw the concoction of drugs I was on.

The cure became the problem so it came down to which drug gave me a better quality of life.

its true that the bioaviliabity of oral Morphine is low in your G.I. tract(you piss it out IIRC-Ican look it up later) the amount of Morphine to reducd thepain is the same as oral but because its mainlined it dosent get sbsorbed by your liver etc so much smaller doses are needed, but the amount of the opiate getting to the problem is the same.

Prior to getting the pump my wifes life was a mess. She was taking 70 Mg of Kadian (morphine) in the morning and 70 mg in the evening and 2500 mg of Vicodin in between. Also the dosages were periodically being increased, Since she had the pump implanted she is much more clear headed and is not experiencing anywhere near the amount of pain. The pump is computerized and she can go in to see the Dr. for an adjustment whenever it is necessary, The pump is refilled every 2 1/2 months. Her Pain Management Dr. is tops!

Gary or anyone else, what is the cost of the refill.

I would be getting the newer medtronics with the bigger reservoir, but don't have script insurance. I know the price varies for different meds, just looking for a ball park.

An update. Went in today and had SCS removed and some maintenance type work. Great doc, painful surgery. Had to be awake and heard every single thing going on and felt an enormous amount of pressure and they pryed out the titanium anchors out of my spine one at a time. Have a pain ball attached to me now for 5 days with antibiotics and lidocaine for the scar tissue as they had to remove several inches of keloid skin to remove. Long time before I jump back in the one pocket saddle :-(

I've got the Medtronic big pump. It doesn't hurt when I shoot, and the amount is so small it doesn't affect my game. I tire out very easily, but I've had major back issues since my early 30's, so it's to be expected. TBH it doesn't help me very much, and pills don't do it for me, but I hope it helps with you. When I'm not at the tables, I study more, so when I do get on them, I'm still improving. Just remember that pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Btw

I have noticed I run about 2 degrees hotter since getting my pump, so I drink a lot of sweet tea and wipe my brow!

I have never had a pump, but I know someone who does. Just be very careful not to bump it, you learn pretty quickly after you get careless once or twice!

Can you elaborate more please qstix?

Does it have any affect on their shooting?
I don't have many hobbies, so it's a big life decision for me, while I've done a ton of research, most ppl on forums don't talk about pool, and that's why I ask here.

The bumping on a pool table wasn't an issue with the SCS, unless you do a Django reverse behind the back shot lol.
