Kim D is facing Jose P in the finals in Riverside.

I think Kim wins. He is playing very well. Its one race to 11.

Remember the name Deo A. He is a young kid that can really play.
Not real sure on his age but its around 17-18 I believe.

"mexicanpoolplayer" might can shed more light on to who he is and his age.

Very good tournament. 10,000 added with an $85 dollar entry.
They used about 30 tables the first couple days but have a seperate tournament room with 8 tables in it as well as bleachers set up. Easy to view. They also have 4 tables that have cameras setup on them recording the play. I think they sell them.
In beetween you can mingle with the good players and there are plenty of tables to play on. Good food and decent prices on everything.
$7 bucks to get in the first 2 days and then $15 today.
128 players plus about 30 on the waiting list. Guys old spots to others before the event. Its setup evey year to have the final 8 on Monday I think.
Good event...another room should set one up the week before or the week after and try to get some of the better players to stay in the area for a week.

Thank you for the update Frank.
Deo is a Filipino kid who really is around 24 years old but looks a lot younger b/c he prolly never gets sun in his face b/c he lives in pool halls. :D
I saw parts of his match with Bobby Hunter. Hunter was up 8-5, blew the 7-ball and Deo made a huge comeback to win 9-8.
If Kim is breaking well against Jose, he'll win it I think.

I was wondering about his age but heard the some people talking about his not being old enough to get into the pool room.
Deo was overheard giving three different ages to three different people.

Where do he play mostly? I have never seen him before.

I did not think anyone was breaking well at all. Maybe the best was Brian Butler. With new cloth I would have thought the tables would ahve been
breaking easier.

Any other updates? Who knocked Efren out? Who was in the hotseat, Kim or Jose?

Thanks for the update 'frankncali'. I live in the San Fernando Valley and really wanted to make it out to Riverside but was feeling a little under the weather. I was curious to know if any of these players played and how they might have done, Damian Alishan, Oscar Dominquez, Chris Tate, Wayne Pullen, John Bryant, Elias Valles and Victor Castillo. I also wanted to know who knocked Max E. and Ernesto D. out of the competition. Finally, was there any side action that you saw or heard about. Again, thanks for your time. Peace.

I think I read Jose Parica got the hot seat! :)

What a grand finals of this event, two warriors battling it out to the finish. I'm pulling for Jose, but if Kim wins it, I'm happy, too. It will be a GREAT win for him, being back in the saddle again, after taking a hiatus due to his eye injury. Just goes to show you how much talent Kim Davenport has, too.

BTW, I'll bet Kim is more comfortable shooting on those Gold Crowns, which was the prevalent table utilized in competitive events years ago, than he is on Diamonds, which is the table that is used in most venues today.

Deo can be seen at HT, Hot Shots and at Jose's old room in West Covina mostly.
I sure would love to take him to bars to hustle but I have a job. :D
Deo's losing a lot of action. He already has hooked-up with King Kong, Alex, Lory, Damian the Kid and Gerardo Jamito. He's won some and he's lost some.
He's an iceman. He just doesn't get rattled. Reminds me of Leonardo Andam a little. Very quiet in and out of the table . Very well-raised by his parents too.
He went to my setup and watched me work on his buddies' cues. He asked questions and called me "big brother" in Tagalog ( Philippinine's main dialect ).
Deo has several backers and are not afraid to back him if the game is right or if he has the nuts. :D
He broke even with Damian at HT a few weeks back.

Jose was in the hot seat
Efren was beaten first by Glenn Rossete who I think plays well. He is a local to Shooters. Then Morro beat Efren.

Jimmy the finals are still going on. What else do you wnat to know and I can see if I know it or can find it out.

One thing I am unsure about is the payouts?

Joey is Alex selling any tapes from the tournament? How can I get them?
Call him at 951-785-9588 .
I keep telling Alex these tapes might be classics someday.
Jeesh, Efren against Stalev two years ago was not taped.
The one-pocket final from last week has not been dubbed yet as far as I know.
I would have loved to go back there today, but I'm pretty tired.

Elias knocked out by Ron Marshall ....He got 13th-16th
Damian-- not sure what place he got...Fach beat him on the winner side in
about the third round.
Oscar played well but I am not sure about his finish. Nice guy BTW.
Tate went out earlier than he wanted I am sure.
I did not see John B. I missed some time there due to a prior commitment.
Same with Wayne. He plays pretty solid. Looking at him I think people think
he can not play. Solid player.
Not sure who knocked Max out. He beat Elias 9-7 in a Long match.

There is some side betting going on ( alledged) and Dante and another guy were playing last night.

Efren did last night.
Max was ahead 4-1 and lost 7-4.
After Efren made the last 9, Max went to rack the balls. :D
He forgot the losers' bracket race is only race to 7 not 9.

There was. Dante played the kid from Gary's room whose name escapes me.
They were only playing $300 a set but Dante took all side bets and lost a lot more. Dante quit on the kid.
Dante was playing Mark when I left.

I was playing, so I didn't see everything unfold, but here's some info: Oscar played, and I think was in the last 16. Max lost hill-hill to Ernesto on the winner's side, then Efren put him out 7-4 on the loser's, after Max was up 4-1 (at least that's what I heard). I don't think Wayne finished in the money, Damian I know didn't finish in the money, Elias I think was in the final 16, but I know Max beat him on the winner's side (Max didn't make it to the last day). Jose beat Ernesto, I heard the score was something like 9-3, but not sure so maybe Oscar can confirm. John played--I don't think he finished in the money. Not sure about Victor.

If I'm wrong about any of the details please correct.

I hope Morro wins the event. At least that way I can say I lost first round to the guy that one the event...

If I had beat Morro, (I actually lead the match for a brief moment..LOL :D ) I would have played Max...Another great draw!!!! I just could not seem to make any balls on the break against Morro no matter where I broke from.... I hear I am not the only one that has that problem... :D

That was probably the best set up tournament and best run event I have played in..The back room tables were perfect in my opinion......My only complaint is they need to cover the windows in the front room. I played a match on the left end tables and you could not see the ball at all because of the glare...It was a total guess shooting anything toward the windows...

I played my first round match on the back tables...I had never played in front of a crowd that big before.....I don't think they were watching me though as Efren was playing at the same time. :D :D

Got to watch Efren play some one pocket Saturday night. It was fun to watch him set up this poor guy...I commented to my freind that you could see Efren knew what shot the guy was going to shoot before the guy knew...There was a couple times Efren would hit a shot and then walk to a certain end of the table and wait for the cue ball to arrive....meanwhile he already knew what shot he was going to play beford the CB got there...

The poor guy was getting 10-6 and the breaks and had no chance of winning a game..He did not look to be all that bad a one pocket player, he just did not see two or three shots ahead like Efren did...
