I can tell you one thing, I would like to have Cardiac Kid as a friend. He's been passionately defending Earl now on record for over 9 years.

I have a quick question. For those of you who are American (and yes, I'm American), how many of you would put up with Earl's BS if he were Japanese? Or German? Or Filipino? Or Chinese? Or Mexican? It seems to me that most of the pro-Earl sentiment comes from Americans. Should we excuse his behavior simply because he's from North Carolina? I'm not expecting an answer to this, because it would just be an admission of hypocrisy on the part of those who choose to blind themselves to Earl's antics. There is no justification for his behavior, no matter how hard you try. In fact, I've asked Earl about his behavior, and he told me that he simply cannot help himself. He can't even justify his own behavior to himself, why should others try to do it for him? Earl was one of the reasons the CPBT shut down. He's one of the reasons men's pool is not shown on TV that much. He's one of the reasons corporate sponsors want nothing to do with men's pool. Would you want somebody who tells a referee to shut up to represent your product? Earl is a great player, but why is he not in the Hall of Fame? Because of his behavior. Lots of other players hate him. Lots of fans hate him. How can everybody be wrong except Earl?

Most of what you say here is accurate..Earl Strickland however was inducted into The American Billiard Congress Hall Of Fame in 2006"-). Earl has the biggest fan following in pool. You will never see bigger crowds than when Earl Strickland plays.....It would I think be hard to solely blame one single person for the state of corporate sponsors...All the top players have pretty good deals. I know SVB does very well....Everyone knows Earl is looney but it doesn't stop them from watching him play. I would never support his behavior, but I even like to watch him play. I cringe a bit when he goes off the deep end though"-)

Funny to hear people talk like pool would be 'fixed' if earl or guys like him went away. As long as a player can make fans say "oh my god" he will bring players to the seats or TV to watch him. Doesn't matter if it's "oh my god did you see that shot?!" or "oh my god did you hear what he just said?!"

And as long as eyeballs are locked into a certain place at a certain time, advertisers will want to put ads in front of them. Corporations don't care about anyone's morality. They care about making money. They only pretend to care about morality and behavior if the accountant says it will cost them more money to ignore it or defend it.

We haven't yet figured out how to make pool as big as poker or golf or whatever (or maybe some people have but they lack the funds and will to make it happen). All I know is, if every single player acted like Ralf tomorrow, pool's popularity (whether we're talking bodies in the pool hall or sponsor dollars) will not have increased a lick.

I hope

Earl shoots the competitions liver out and hands it to em !! Shoot holes in em Earl , don't listen to the haters .

I like Earl's insanity. I also appreciate how Shane conducts himself. I am more like Shane in my attitude, but I don't mind playing or watching someone who acts like Earl.
