Wish we had more USA players in the final 16, but Rodney Morris, Danny Harriman, Max Eberle, and Teddy Garrahan all got beat today. Congrats to these players for an excellent showing!

Looks like it's up to Earl to bring it home yet again!
Good luck Earl!:D :D :D

It would be great to see Earl post back-to-back World titles.

I wish him the best of luck!!!

You bet. Pool could always use another black eye. Nobody watches it now, so what's the difference? Maybe if we're lucky he'll have another temper tantrum on World Wide television. That would be great for promoting the sport as one to be taken seriously.

What, are you kidding me? Do you live in a cave? I don't know where you have been, my fellow poster, but Earl the Pearl is EXACTLY what the pool-playing public wants to watch on worldwide television, in person, and on videotape. He is an extremely focused and talented player, well deserving of all the championships he has held and is holding currently, and I have never met a person who takes this sport more seriously than Earl.

Since Earl is going to be playing as long as he is capable, and your massive knowledge and foresight regarding the oncoming failure of pool as a sport is so obvious, why don't you tell us what your contribution to pool is or will be? Seems like all you contribute right now is negativity. Did Earl beat you in a tournament or something?

May Earl have just a couple of good rolls to go with that sharp shooting. Bring it on home EARL!

Poster Adanac67,

Who is being unsportsmanlike now? What a horrible thing to say regarding one of the most talented players in professional pool to date. Why don't you just wish him well since he is representing the U.S.A.

Love them or hate then, Earl and Keither the Ether are the two players that the fans want to watch.

They both played at the Open last year and everyone always wanted to know what tables they were playing on before they took their seats.

Let's see, Earl is intense, focused, has thown a tantrum on TV and he is the reason people don't watch pool. If I didn't know better I would think you were talking about Davis Cup Captain and the man who put more fannies in seats than anyone, John McEnroe.

I guess it's the stuff he says and does, like his match last year with Takahashi..that was uncalled for. He's so against the jump cue, but this year he's using 'finger extensions'..

well..the UK audience is really picking on him now, giving him a hard time

Takahashi must have agreed with Earl on the jump cue, or else he would have enforced the rules and used it anyway, right? Takahashi has no one to blame but himself, after all, it was ultimately his choice not to use it.

It was Takahashi's turn at the table and the way he decides to play a shot was none of Strickland's business. Strickland HAD NO RIGHT to say anything. It was nothing but a shark tactic that should have cost Strickland the game.

takahashi was infuriated after the match. how he handled it is not the point. earl should have kept his mouth shut in the first place. he knew it. he was warned to do never do it again, and behaved like a good little boy the rest of the tourney.

It was a move.

Gee, Takahashi got sharked! And now everyone's feeling sorry for him. Like no one has ever talked to his opponent before. LOL. How about all those rowdy fans there cheering on Davis and sharking Earl? Why is no one feeling sorry for Earl? LOL. Guys who find fault with Earl are probably the same people who complain about a person cheesing the 9 against them, but are quick to do it when given the chance. You go Earl. Top 8 in the WORLD! And how many years has he been doing this? Jake

Why should I feel sorry for Earl?

It's extremely funny to see the amount of pro-Earl responses in light of his behaviour. So defensive.

Two things stick in my mind from last night's match. Earl with his fingers in his ears in front of millions of viewers worldwide, and Earl bouncing like a moron on a pogo stick in front of millions of viewers worldwide.

If we poolers can't handle the cheer of an audience that's no bigger than 100 people, it says something about the professionalism of the game. But then again, most great players I know have no problems with it except Earl it seems.

just to start - hope earl wins, showmanship goes a long way in promoting a sport, but , jimmy connors giving the finger to the audience at a tennis match is not showmanship, it is a reflection of the times. [ditto johnny mc enroe. ] the picture of a youngster giving the finger to anything or anyone is in MY opinion nothing to be proud of or brag about, wouldnot want this to represent anything my children would be taught. enough preaching - lots of luck to earl and the US. [our country] JMB - aka oldman.
