So Friday night I had a pretty satisfying evening of playing straight pool. Saw some minor improvements, had a few runs over 25 balls and was basically feeling good about myself. I go out last night to a different place and am feeling great, hoping to up those 25+ balls to closer to 40 etc...Even if it only happened once it would be great. I played 3 games going to 75 points. In the first 2 games I had a total, 2 game total mind you, of 39pts. No, the other guy wasn't shooting really well, I was shooting like total crap. I couldn't make a ball if my life depended on it. The frames looked like "opening break, 2, 0, 0 ,safety, safety, 2, 9, 0....." etc... I was getting so frustrated that I wanted to jab a pencil in my eye. Of course my frustration wasn't helping any. Anyway, I figured I'd torture myself for one last game. So we get into playing and again, shooting like total dog dirt making 1 ball here, 2 balls there, missing straight in shots less than a foot from the pocket. It was horrifying. Anyway, we get to the 20th frame of the game, which is the final frame, and I needed 54 balls. I don't know why but I put my Jim White cue away and pulled out my Scruggs. It was like day and night. I'm proud to say that for the first time in my life I ran 54 and out. My first 50+ run came when I least expected it. I've never been one to think that a cue makes a difference but now I'm beginning to wonder. And for what it's worth, my Scruggs is going to be my straight pool cue from now on. Especially if I'm playing at that place.

I ran 10 more balls after the game was over so in effect I ran 64 balls. Wooohooo!!!! I owe a lot to you guys here for that too. Don't think I don't appreciate all the advice I've taken away from here these past 2 weeks.

Thanks, man. That's 7 more than my current high was. I'm not really counting that last 1o balls because I sat around for about 15 minutes talking before I got to the table again. I'm not going to toot my own horn yet either because that 47 was months ago. I probably won't be seeing 50 again for a long time.

Congratulations! Way to keep at it, and not let the negative results get you down. FWIW, my high run yesterday was 51 - so you did better than I did.

lol

Thanks, Blackjack, but 51 for you is like 10 for me. I will take a moment to gloat though. hehe!!

You know, I switched to the Scruggs and when I got back to the table I looked at the score and saw that I needed 54. I pretty much gave up on it and had no pressure on myself. When I got into that 3rd rack I was like "Hey, I got a shot at this" and buckled down. I guess by that time I had relaxed enough and was in comfortable stroke.

Make sure you wear the same clothes, too! :D Good job!

Congrats Mully!! This game is crazy.................Friday night and Saturday I practiced 14.1 looking for a high run, and puked all over myself. 38 being the highest, with an unbelievable amount of 14's miss the break, and or 18, 19 miss a duck.

I was so disgusted, Sunday I went to an 8-ball tourney and walked through it undefeated. The patterns were just jumping off the table at me.

So...................14.1 is the best game!!!! It helps all the games. I know we have heard 100 times, but I believe!!

I would ABSOLUTELY count the other 10 balls. Let your brain know that you've been there, done that and 30s and 40s are kids stuff now to a guy who is approaching runs in the 70s. :)

This game is more mental than even my wife. :)

This is exactly how my league matches have been playing out lately...I've even had the urge to stab myself with the score keeping pencil :D

It's nice to think there could be a high run on the heels of my current slump!

Thanks for sharing.

Very nice, congrats Mully !! It's the Scruggs, basically the cue makes the shots by itself and the player feels like a passenger watching the balls disappear in all those holes. Trust me, I know ;) Makes a bad player such as myself a good player easily... Keep shooting 'em straight.

Congrats - My only comment is do not tell yourself it will be a long time till the next good run. Say something positive and program your brain to expect it sooner than later.

Keep stroking
