It's no wonder pool doesn't go anywhere.

I couldn't agree more. Mic-up Earl and put him on every single tv table, win or lose. Listening to him banter is way more entertaining to the average joe than some gentleman who has a robot personality.

Don't talk bad about Ralf Souquet like that. :p He's a great guy, but Earl's the best for TV ratings.

Put some matches on tv with McCready and Earl on the mic. Man, I don't care who's playing at that point.

Man, why don't they do THAT? McCready vs Earl. That would be the entertainment of the YEAR! Where's JAM--- Hook that up!!!

I'm a member of three hockey forums, a sport riddled with actual knock-down, drag out, physical fights. I don't recall a single thread escalating to the nth degree of hostility as I see on any pool forum. There are no pictures of females as avatars or cluttering the boards, nude, scantily clad, or otherwise. Guys aren't posting about how they'd bang some Ice Girl. There's playful ribbing, sure, but no threats of violence or even profanity. No one is arguing over politics or religion. How does hockey have a more civilised messageboard than pool???

Perhaps you should limit your activities to those boards that are more in line with your preferences.

Maybe a basket weaving forum would be more to your liking. What do you expect from pool players?

I'd guess that I'm one of the five in the corner playing pool with my head down (eyes averted) and drawing no attention to myself.

No you were not one of the ones I was talking about. You shy? NOT. Johnnyt

I actually thought this forum was pretty tame compared to some of the others I've seen.

There is no doubt that pool is heavily ego driven. Around here we have people who won't play without stakes. I just don't play with them. But I have noticed that everyone will help with a question if you ask.
I made a positive suggestion on my local APA site and got lambasted for such a suggestion.
Personally I try to keep my posts on a positive nature. But that's because I don't truly think it's my place to debase other people.
But pool players are touchy, sensitive and not always very nice when they compete. Stop the competition and they are very friendly for the most part.

There's something to be said about hockey and pool. I played the sport for 12 years and one thing I always had to explain to people is that hockey players don't really hold grudges outside of the rink. Two guys have a problem on the ice, they trade a few punches and get the aggression out. The worst they get is 2 minutes in the box.

Meanwhile Earl snaps ONE cue and catches all the flak in the pool world for it. Pro pool is trying to be made into some family friendly clean sport. Why don't we just call it what it is and take it from there? Show it all. Some advertisers might not like it, but many will once they see the ratings and interest.

Earl and McCready commenting on a match that ends with Corey punching Charlie Williams in the face. Who WOULDN'T want to sponsor that?

Yes, I'm happily married.....but I still have my little black book (held closed with 2 heavy duty rubberbands). My wife doesn't mind that I have my little black book and she encourages me to call anyone that's in it. Actually, about 70% of the names in the book have DEAD written across them in bright red ink... Oy-Vey !

guys that'd rather beat on each other than beat some chicks guts in? sounds like a bunch of guys i wouldn't want to hang out with

probably not as manly as they pretend to be

My experience has been nothing but positive. The posters on AZ that I have actually met in person and played some pool with have been great.

I don't think that pool will EVER reach the level of public acceptibilty or interest that we would like it to. :(

Its just not that interesting to the general public.

JMHO....

As far as Pool having a few 'characters' in it, that really isnt different than any other sport. Look at Tennis for example. For the most part you have the average athelete competing. But how about John Macenroe? I think he could actually give lessons to Strickland.

As far as some of the threads of people losing their temper and going to the extreme? I've only been on the boards for a month or two, but I have seen a few pretty impressive hostile threads. For the most part they all seem over money. Either a bet not payed, a sale gone wrong, or a product not matching its description. If people started making custom hockey sticks worth thousands of dollars, or promoting side bets of hockey games on those forums, I bet the level of arguments would drastically rise.

On the subject of the avatars? That is just what different moderators allow. Some have very strict rules on what they allow, some like AZ has a fairly open policy. Personally I have had to close threads as I tend to read these forums form work, and some of the graphics don't meet my companies policies. Does that make the poster wrong? not at all, I should just read that post at home is all.
