John "Mr. 400" Schmidt aka 2006 US Open 9 ball Champion is going to the Mosconi Cup this December!

Congrats on a stellar year John!

I hear the Mosconi Cup is a first class production, I know you and Racheal are going to have a GREAT time. Enjoy it, you deserve it... you both do... don't forget she had to put up with you during all of this. :D

Congratulations to John Schmidt! Well deserved!

I kept thinking that it would be a total abomination to exclude John from the team; I am VERY happy that he is now included. Well deserved kudo's to John.

Of course, $100 says I can beat him at straight pool (shameless attempt to get a cheap straight pool game at DCC:) :) ).

It was too bad that John couldn't make it to the WPC. But hopefully he'll have a good showing as part of Team USA in the Mosconi Cup. Congrats to John!

Congrats John. I hope you do well and help the team bring back a victory.

Also, I hope a high profile event, such as the Mosconi Cup, will help draw some sponsors your way.

Yeah Buddy!!

Best of luck to you John. You deserve it my friend. Congradulations to the 2006 US Open 9 Ball Champ! We are rooting for ya.
Purdman:cool:

Yep, The US Open champion certainly deserves a spot in representing the good ole US of A. Let's keep the trophy on our turf again this year. Congrats John.

so whats the final roster?
Johnny Archer
Rodney Morris
Earl Strickland
Corey Deuel
Mike Davis
John Schmidt

Mike And John are both Mosconi Cup Rookies.

How do they choose which players get to compete? not taking anything away from the pros listed but are they really the top of us pool talent?

also do we really want earl strickland to be part of a team that represents americans as a whole?

one ohter question also came to mind... how come we dont do somthing like this vs taiwan or the philipines? is it because we only like to pick on countries we know we can beat? :o

Europe picked us if I understand correctly. The Mosconi Cup is put on by Matchroom sports in Europe.

We can't even get pro pool players paid for a tournament, how on earth would we be able to find someone to fund something like the Mosconi Cup from the States with other countries?

i always thought it was an american thing, because of the name of the event.

whats the total score since it's inception? i remember someone telling me that USA won every single match but i dont think that's right.., europe has some very strong players (like neil, ortman, soquet, mika etc)

COOL. Congratulations John.

Just think twice about taking that Joe Btfsplk character (Purdman) with you. You know about Joe's luck.

Here's their website... should be able to answer most of your questions....

http://www.mosconicup.com/

The web design has changed... I wonder if it has to do with PartyPoker being a sponsor? Totally different than it used to be... it's really simple and plain now.

wow total combined score of 10-2 in favor of the americans.
didnt realize mosconi cup's been going on this long.

First off, CONGRATS JOHN!!! Well deserved brother! BTW your 245 Run video, just plain Rocks. Man, do I like that DVD!

OK on the matter of EARL....can we say MVP? Then I guess we(Americans) will just have to put up with looking like some yahoo cowboys to the rest of the world a little bit longer. Besides, in the pool world...everyone understands Earl is Earl. I don't think his comments effect us as a country, like say, some golfers... :D

Speaking of golf, (I love transitions) that is where the idea of the Mosconi cup came from. They were looking for an event like the Ryder Cup. So it was already set up with Europe in mind and they matched it.

BUT, I know we would all love to see a World League competition played on TV. That would just be the coolest way of doing it ever. That is the way the Olympics should do it!
HELLO? OLYMPIC COMMITTEE...WE'RE TALKING TO YOU! ;) :D ;)

Look at team Europe - 5 new faces from last year! That amount of change could be what gets team Europe the title back.
