Saddly, for the players, there is no doubt that IPT was about pool..for Trudeau, I think it was about Natural Cures, and a way to get around his infomercial ban. Who owns the International Pool Tour anyway? Trudeau may have controled it through some entity structure, but there must be an entity that actually owns it. If that entity is insolvent, then it is cheap!
The only thing it needs is new leadership and some cash. Really, that's what it comes down to. There are sporting fanatics, athletes, media producers, corps out there with lots of money.
So the real question is, for a $8mil annual payout in prize winnings, how much would the industry have to grow to accomodate this? How many more tables would Brunswick have to sell, cues that MacDermott has to make...and what about the other industries that could benefit...Alcohol, Adult entertainment, Gaming, TV? Heck, what about a reality TV show? How much would the world have to pay in order for the tour to succeed? In those terms, $8mil is hefty, but not a lot to support.
Let's find a buyer who will promote pool, pocket billiards, worldwide. There must be some savvy business developers here on AZ, or at least those with connections to some... Right now the industry stands to loose nothing if IPT goes away. That perspective needs to change.
I know my limitations, and unfortunately the only action I can take is to voice my opinion here, no matter how idealistic or naive it may be. Please, someone take up my argument and run with it. Look at all the drama here in the forum... there is a lot energy among us. We lament over all the prize opportunities lost...yet we are at a point now when we have potentially the most influence. Let's capture that energy while it's hot and push it toward something really cool... this time for the players.
