SVB got beat BY Tinsley Johnson he is out of the tourney. I will give him credit for the 10-ball win but not a verry good showing for qoutq unquote the best 8-ball bar table player in the US? Again not taking anything away from him but he did not look well in the 9-ball either and if you watched the 10-ball final Edwin Montal played real bad and still almost pulled it off.

Alternate break format

Any one can win. Hes not able of showing his real speed..

ps I hate this format.

I agree with you i hate this format as well but you cant take away the talent thats down there big table is a whole nother story SVB would probablly still be alive. There are just to many bar table players out there right know its hard to say who is the best. I will say this SVB is the best 10-ball player on any table in the US

get U sum...

Tinsley Johnson can play, especially on a barbox....What a great win for such an animated player..............Marc Swisher

i remeber when Tinsley couldnt make a ball, Good for him. He has came along way. Congrats to him thats a big win beating "Player of the year" while he is still on a rampage, No knock to SVB, Way to go Tinsley!!!!!

Sux for SBV, it could be said "now we'll see what he is made of" I dont have a doubt he will bounce back like a rubber ball, SVB is way to strong to let this get to him, infact he'll come back stronger than ever.

I agree with you about the format, it sucks. What is funny is how Hennessee is doing so well and the break may be his biggest weapon. Doesn't make much sense

Your man Jay went out in the same round. So now I have that in common with SVB. At least I cashed, 100 big ones! :) In this field 33-48 is not that bad, and I lost to two good players. Darrell Crain and Don Wirtamin. Darrell beat me 5-4 after I was ahead 4-1. He played good! Don beat me 5-3 and he played good too! No pool stories about what might have been. I LOST is all.

I did win four matches, so I am not ashamed of my performance. I probably play less pool than any one of the 167 players in this event. Thanks for your support. I'm glad a few guys made a buck betting on me. Now, where is that poker game? :D

I bet my life savings and my best hound dog on you to win it all. The five dollars is no big deal but I'm going to miss old Smokey.

why all the hating on alternate break??

EACH player has an equal chance.

is that not fair enough for you?

we got a game me vs ohhhhh Efren... in any one rack game.

I get hot and never let him out of his chair... and suddenly I am better than he is???

Alternate break lets both players play. the better player will win far more often than the HOT player will.

at the end of the day it's more fair.

depends on how you look at it! alt break to me sux because all it does is give the weaker player a better chance. I don't watch or play pool to make it more even. I play and watch to see who is the best right then and there.

I'm certain alt break was invented to get more players to pony up the entry fee and to slow down the top speed guys. I guess you just have to figure out who's point of view to look at it from...the promoter, the stronger player, or the weaker player to find out how you feel about it.

What really sux is you just never get to see guys run out a set, or make a come back from WAY down by stringing racks. Get a few bad rolls in alt break and you just have to hope for a mistake, or you may never come back....thats lame cause there is nothing better than seeing a players heart by making a multirack come back from being way down and the other player on the hill!

SVB will be back stronger than ever. Sometimes when you have a big run of winning when your young you get to think all you have to do is show up. It's a wake up call when you don't finish high in a tournament. I wouldn't want to be the first guy he plays next tournament. Johnnyt

The better player don't have to win a game, in alternate, or loser breaks for that matter. In short races to 5 or even 7, if you break dry once or twice, it can kill you. Same with loser breaks. Maybe you make a ball and several balls tie up. Especially, if you're playing someone who can run one rack of 8-ball at a time. A friend of mine used to have a big bar in Ft. Wayne, In... They had 2 big 9-ball tourney's a year. Race to 9, loser breaks. I beat a lot of guys who are a lot stronger players than me. It just evens things up.

I agree, Satman. Race to 5, 8-ball on a barbox with top players is as close to a coin flip as it is to a predictable finish! Tinsley is a great guy, a good player, and was one of my favorite characters when I lived in Calif.; but he'd have no chance with SVB in a longer race. But then, few would!
