It's Over... Sigel WINS 9 ~2

Here is the risk. All the "other" federations/group fold their tents because they can't compete with the money that is supposedly being thrown around and after it all implodes there is no one around to pick up the pieces.

Nick,
I personally doubt that the IPT will amount to anything long-lasting; but WHO CARES. Do you REALLY think that no one will want to pick up the pieces. There will be a bunch of guys like Ian A. and a bunch organizations falling all over themselves to see who will be the first to try and take advantage of the poorly organized, poorly educated pool players. It will be a mad scramble to see who can climb on the gravy train. Very little risk to this in my opinion. Perhaps in the scramble to "pick up the pieces" a better organization will come along.

Exactly

Exactly right, Willie. What you discribe for the future is exactly what has happened prior to the IPT. Why should we expect anything else if the IPT folds?

Now this is an adult conversation...I agree with you. I just hate listening to idiots get excited about a obvious crook.

I guess this is how pyramid scams happen and exist. If you say it out loud you would never believe it....but the greed takes over. I'll now shut up about it until next year.

Sigel wins IPT 8-Ball Championship

Mike Sigel scored two dominating wins over Loree Jon Jones to win the International Pool Tour's World 8-Ball Championship.

There were no corners cut in production or celebrity appearances for this one, with over 10 cameras in action to cover the match and the celebrities from every angle. Celebrities including Paul Sorvino, Allison Janney, Dominique Swain, Mario Lopez, Pauly Shore, Anthony Anderson, DMX, Michael Clarke Duncan and Thomas Hearns were in attendance to watch these two multi time champions compete.

Jones was introduced first, and accompanied to the table by four tuxedo clad attendees and a tuxedo clad cue carrier. Not to be outdone by Jones, Sigel was accompanied by four bikini wearing escorts as well as two cue carriers. After the singing of the Star Spanged banner, the pool action got underway.

In the beginning, it was readily apparent that both players had a bad case of the nerves. Neither player was able to run a rack early as Sigel scratched on his first two breaks and seemed to be unable to stop himself from jumping up on key shots. Jones early weakness seemed to be nerves and 8-ball strategy as she repeatedly left tough balls for late in the run and those balls would come back to haunt her at the end of each game. Sigel did take an early 2-0 lead, and then matched Jones in the next four games for a 4-2 lead. Jones shot selection hurt her in the next two games as she missed late in the run and gave Sigel open tables to shoot at and Sigel moved out to a 6-2 lead. From there, the old Mike Sigel that pool fans remember started showing up as Sigel ran the last 3 racks accompanied by his usual banter. That gave the first set to Sigel 9-2.

If the end of the first set was a bad sign for Jones, the beginning of the second set was even worse as Jones missed a ball early in the first rack and Sigel ran it out. The second rack was even worse for Jones as she missed a very makeable 8-ball that would have tied the match at 1-1, but instead gave Sigel a 2-0 lead. Sigel broke and ran the next two racks before he came up dry on the 5th rack. Jones was able to clear that table and then break and run the next to get back to 4-2 before a very surprising miss in the 7th game gave the table back to Sigel. Jones would have a lot of time to think about that miss as all she had to do for the rest of the set was listen to Sigel talk and watch Sigel run racks. Sigel won the next five racks without allowing Jones to the table. Sigel finally pocketed the last 8-ball with a triumphant 'I am the man!!' shout.

Both players were in tears for the final money presentation as Jones went away with a check for $75,000 and Sigel walked away with $150,000 in cash. Both players were very appreciative of Kevin Trudeau for putting together the International Pool Tour and both talked of playing in the IPT 'King of the Hill' Invitational 8-Ball Shootout in Orlando this November 30th. Jones also expressed her interest in playing Sigel again, preferably without the nerves along for the ride.

A letter to the critics

Looking over some of these forum notes gets me sick. This is not for all of you....just the critics of Kevin Trudeau. I see a man trying to promote the sport we all love and you are chatizing him. Some of you have hinted that Mike and Lori are "scamming" us also. To you...I wish that you get what you deserve. Nothing but what the sport is today. To those of you who will try to support what was done today in Vegas......I wish you the very best. THANK YOU Kevin, for doing something that just might make the sport of Pocket Billiards a greater success for all of us. I wouldn't blame you, if after reading some of this critical nonsence; you decided to say screw all of you...." I don't need this."

But Nick, you said in an earlier post on this exact thread:

"Let's see next week all on my own I'm going to have my own Tournament...let call it the US Open. It by invitation only and I'm giving 30 million dollars to the winner. Contestants me and my 3 year old Daughter. Seeing as I'm putting up more money the conventional US Open is null and void. Sorry Barry.

If a year from now I'm wrong...I'll eat it
"

Did you decide not to do that or what?

Sorry it took so long to get the report together. We got in about 2am from Vegas and I was completely beat.

Trudeau seemed to go all out for the production on this one. Over 10 cameras in action and 400-500 people in attendance.

Besides the celebrites in attendance that were mentioned in the report, Sigel has Rempe and Varner cheering for him at the event. Surprisingly, I didn't see any current WPBA players there to support Jones. Mary Guarino was there, but she hasn't played in quite some time. With the event in Vegas, it was no surprise that there were a few pool legends in attendance. Lou Butera, Bill Incardona and Ronnie Allen were there, as well as Leonard Bludworth.

This was the first time I have ever watched Sigel play live. He sure puts on a show. Studies every shot and if he doesn't get perfect, he acts like he is hooked. When he does get perfect, he lets you know that too. He fired in one shot and as the balls were slowing down he let out a "Don't get perfect! That's too good". He was constantly imploring the balls to slow down or speed up. He sounded like the animal trainer at a circus when he was shooting. He would make that "hut, hut" sound that trainers make to get the attention of the animals. As for his level of play, it was typical Mike Sigel. Late in the second match, when he was just shooting fast and loose, he chose some shots to get out that looked routine for him but most people wouldn't even think of choosing.

The slow cloth and tight pockets didn't really seem to make much of a difference. Although it might have affected Jones shot selection as she never really let loose with a shot that required a lot of cue ball movement. (She tried one and missed it badly) I don't really think any cloth could have affected Sigel's game. I think he could draw the ball in mud.

What did really seem to affect Jones' game was the fact it was 8-ball. She just didn't seem to have 8-ball patterns down. Tied up balls and balls in tough spots were left for last and she found herself in terrible shape late in multiple racks. The 8-ball she missed in the 2nd game of the 2nd set was nothing but nerves, but that was the end of the set in my opinion. Sigel was starting to really get fast and loose and she needed to shut him down. Letting him get to 2-0 with him breaking, instead of 1-1 with her breaking was awful.

Thanks Mike! That's awesome, did they allow cameras? any pictures? :)

Anyway sounds like Kevin is on the right track, I hear he's got one of the top PR firms BNCPR handling some things for him, so he's not afraid to spend. And 10 cameras!! wow that seems over the top, can't wait to see this on TV.

Thanks, Mike, for the interesting report....I feel this gives the optimism expressed for the IPT promotion a lot more validity and legitimacy....Seems like a great kickoff for a promising future....

They did seem to be a little slow on how they handled the media for this one. We were set up with a place to take pics of the celebrities when they arrived (I didn't take any), but we had no place to take pics during the match.

The funny thing is that a lot of media didn't even have passes to get into the event. It looked like they were just there to take pics of the celebs.

A couple times you could see the production company doing an interview with a celeb on camera with the light from the camera pointing right into the arena. (It was not a bright light)

We were about 3 rows back on one side with the first two rows reserved for celebs and VIPs. When Thomas Hearns arrived, they informed two very attractive women that had been seated up front that they would have to move to make room for Hearns and his partner.

One thing I noticed right away (that was very nice) was that the crowd only cheered when someone won a game or made a nice shot. None of that cheering for every "straight in ball with stop shape on the next one" like we see on other broadcasts.
