It's Taken Me 1 Year To Write About This; What Happened To Me At Last Year's SBX

Most good players "if" they had as steady and solid of a bridge as that contraption, would play MUCH better, because of it's solidness, it's stability. It's not a real hand it's not moving like a real hand would need to be calmed. It does not get sweaty, so in my opinion it's actually an advantage to have something as stable as what he had.

I would not want to lose my arm to get one though. Maybe Earl Strickland will invent one?

Scott once offered to play a well know pro, for good money, to play even and they both use a hand bridge. The pro was smart enough to say no. For a lot of shots they would be fine but rail shots and jacked up shots, it took him a long time to get used to it.
 
Scott has been teaching and coaching me for a couple of years now and I can easily say that he is the reason of all of my improvements and achievements. If it wasn't for him, I would not have continued to play pool. Being around him inspires me to continue playing and put a lot of time practicing. He keeps me dedicated and pushes me everyday to become a better player. He has so much knowledge of the game and is able to explain the physics of the game in a way that everyone can understand. Not many "Pros" have that kind of skill to teach the way he teaches. I am forever grateful :)
 
Fun read Brian, good depiction of the match

My old boss was the world champion skeet shooter out of a wheelchair, and he is a quadriplegic.
Our machine shop made him a device for his hand and wrist so he can pull the trigger, we used to take him fly fishing, fly rod taped to his wrist, he ties his own flies using his mouth, he reloads his own ammo, we took him pheasant hunting and set him up as a blocker and even forgot about him one time in Grinnel, Iowa for 2-hours in the freezing cold.
I didn't feel bad about freezing him out because he was a bit of an asshole, and he is lucky I didn't push him down the stairs a couple of times><:smile
 
Was it Paul Fanelli or Paul Mottey who built the bridge hand? I could have sworn I read an article a few years ago about Paul Mottey building a bridge hand for an amputee. Could be a different one, but they looked very similar. Either way, its awesome!
 
wheelchair players

I used to play a good player in a wheelchair and we would gamble all the time. He had a great hustle, rolling in to a pool hall and looking for a game. His story was that his mom bought him a cue, told him to quit feeling sorry for himself, and get out of the house and do something. Players mistook him for easy action. I watched him once tell this story in a rundown place where you couldn't get the players to bet that water was wet. At $5 a game, he beat all the players in the place that thought they had a lock on a cripple. I knew he was but kept my mouth shut and just watched as he made believers out of them.

As we gambled a lot together, I knew that you had to leave him a jump shot for a safety in order to lock him up. He knew all the angles and rails, and could kick from anywhere. One day, he brings another wheelchair player in to play me a little action. Already knowing he's in a chair, I left a safety with a jump shot. My mistake! What I didn't see was that the player had two little stubs left for legs. He propped up, and popped in the jump shot, and then ran out!

Lesson learned that day: Always assume that EVERY player you play for action, plays just as good or better than you. People who overcome handicaps in life have a little bit more drive than normal.

LOL, I just assumed that he was just shortening Sandcastle to Castle, since I did not know the room I figured it would be something a local would call it.

What are the chances of two rooms with "castle" in it in the same state??

Sorry I missed you last week. Things just didn't work out. After reading your post, I remember you relating the story to me while we were together at the beer bar. Didn't put two and two together till I saw the pictures you posted. Don't think anyone will top that story for a long, long time.

I third that. I hate that stupid nickname. Surely someone could come up with something better. I cring every time I hear it.
