Its the Archer...

You see all of these post about how cues suck !!! Meuccis, Dale Perry, Mali and many others are considered "JUNK".

I own multiple pieces of these so called "JUNK" cues. 3 Meuccis, 5 Dale Perrys, 2 Lucasi cues, a newer JOSS cue, an older McDermott and a few more off brands if you will. I also own 3 Schons, 2 Shurtz cues, a BlackCreek, a Jerry Price cue and a Chad Carter.

Right now my player is the Jerry Price. It hits very well as does the Carter, BlackCreek, and my 1200.00 SHurtz custom. I paid 200.00 for the Chad Carter and it hits purely "FANTASTIC". I was very surprised.

But, along with the above paragraph the cues I mentioned in the first paragraph plays great also. Dale has made all of my DP cues to the exact specs I asked for...from the exotic woods to the white joints. They were all custom made for ME. I guess I just get tired of people putting down cuemakers. When are people going to realize..."ITS THE ARCHER and NOT THE ARROW THAT WINS THE MATCHES"

I just wanted to vent this. Sorry it was so long. Thanks for your time.

Yes Sir, This Is Very True. I've owned Quite a few Cues from Dale, I've always tryed to support Local Guys. Dale Makes a great cue For the Price.
I myself, I am a little "Upset" with the fact that dale started doing mostly CNC work in his cues. Hey, It's still a good cue, No Tiff there. However,
Quality often comes into Question. From what I hear and Understand, He is Nolonger Doing Traditional Fullsplice cues. He is a nice Guy Too.
I like most of his older work and some of his newer PJ's.

That is true but it helps if you have a better bow and a better arrow. Ask the American Indian.

Bro, inform urself! before u make these kind of stupid posts.

a buddy of mine owns a pool hall and he says that he will never buy another muecci for that same reason; poor quality. if you sell pool cues and your customers are bringing them back because of problems... your not going to want to sell these faulty products any longer due to the hassle. at least that's how he felt.

I know of a handful of players in my area with a meucci and not a single complaint from any of them and myself included. Most popular big name cues i seem to see are meuccis, macd, cutecs and pred. BK2 seems to be most popular breaker.

i agree

i can speek for one of your makers from the list. dale perry. i bought one of his cues from the bay. had him make me a dpr shaft for it. good communication, and great work. i have told many people and friends, some on this forum, i would put that cue up against anyones for playability. the quality is there to. not the same as a high end cue maker but better than the production cues. i also get compliments on the looks when i do take it out. i don't play with it as i have a favorite playing cue, but i wouldn't hesitate to use it. i think for someone buying a first custom cue, a dale perry off of e bay is a great move. sometimes you can get them real cheap, and if ya get outbid, there will be some new ones the next day. the other makers on your list i can't comment as i am not familier with their work. i do agree with the type of comments made about some cue makers are not to my liking but hey, its your right and your opinion. these comments don't reflect the things he did to his dealers in the past for a reason so please don't drudge up the usual bs. it is already beat to death. thanks.

I dont need to inform myself. I can freely stand up and say meucci sucks goats ass....... I know MANY of people in MY area who had meucci's. took good care of them and everything....any everyone of them either had 5 inch cracks in the finish......the butts literally falling off..... Rings rising.......Split ferrules.......cracked shafts.......

I seen enough of that junk called Meucci to make my assumption and opinion on what I think of them.....

For the pros who uses or used them... more power to you when the check comes in the mail....

As for your Peeps in the area... jsut wait......the glue on them cues are bound to crack soon

Now I will say this.......... I will shoot with a Meucci Original..... Thay is quality.........but not with the products they have now that seems to be made of Balsa wood!!!!!!!!!!!

Taking the argument, 'its the Indian, not the arrow' and the fact that pool is 99% mental, if the player feels the shaft will help, then he is better off already- regardless.

I guess, every person has to find what works for them. You may feel the shaft has no benefits for yourself, so putting that on the end of your cue results in you just missing shots because it plays differently. For others it does affect their game simply because they feel it does. Positivity simply solves.

And for the record, I shoot with a 'house cue.'

I was a B-A player depending on how much I was playing at the time. I played for 40 years or more and never owned a cue that cost more than $150 at that time. I played 75% barbox and the cues I used were a $30 Dufferin, a $55 Viking, and a two-piece I really don't know or remember what its cost was.

A lot of people should stop worrying about their cues and deflection, and put all that wasted mental energy into making balls. If they did there would be a lot more 4 to 7 ball runners running 30 or more out there.

Watch any good player that walks into a poolroom and goes to the cue rack. The very first thing he looks for is a good tip. Second, how it feels to him, and last, if its some what straight. Tip=60%, feel (balance and weight) 30%, and then how straight it is. IMHO. Johnnyt

Rings rise on ANY cue....even Joss West's. And for heaven's sake.....by analogy, "give me a break" is an appropriate response herein, whereas "give me a brake" might do you well in a soapbox derby.

Mr. AR MAN

At one time I had a BIG collection of expensive cues ranging from $500 to $3000. Right now I only have 1 fairly expensive Schon that came from the OP J and that cue is the finest Schon I have played with. >>>Still open to trades jjolie!:D

Since selling all the high end stuff I have gone on a quest to find the best playing low budget cue. This has actually been a fun search. Last week I picked up a Kaiser cue with a "buckhorn" radial joint and buttcap with rings and 2 shafts with Kamui tips for under $90!!! this cue plays very nicely. The only change I'm making is re-tapering the shaft since it basically comes with a Euro/conical taper.

Having worked in pool rooms, and buying and selling cues for 20 years there is a jumping off point where playability, and decoration split. I have seen top flight players rain 100's with $50 cues, and I've seen myself play horribly with $2000 Black Boars!:D

good subject, and if you ever buy/sell/trade with the OP....he's as stand up as it gets, and a great guy.

When I give classes I show students some power stroke shots - not to show off, but to show the the action they can get on the cue ball by slightly altering their grip and their stroke mechanics -

...Some of them will shake their heads and grumble that I can only do those shots because I am using a cue armed with a Predator Z Shaft...

I smile, and then I have THEM select a random house cue off the wall. I shape the tip a little bit here and little bit there...

Then I perform the same shots with the house cue - a cue I had never touched before, and a cue I didn't choose to shoot with.

Argument settled.

If thats the case, then why do you have a Z Shaft on the end of your cue at all?

I don't think anyone here is saying a good shaft doesn't help SOME. But it's sure and hell not going to make you 2 balls better in 9-ball like a lot of people that buy them believe. Johnnyt

I actually have an OB-1 now. I am not saying that the house cue is just as good as my cue with the Z-Shaft, but I am saying that SKILL has a lot to do with what I can do with those power stroke shots.

As for "why" I have the Z Shaft - I was desperately in need of a new shaft and Shane Sinnot hooked me up with that Z shaft about 3 years ago. I did not go out of my way to buy a low deflection shaft - in fact I don't pay attention to any of that BS anyway - never have - never will. I just put the balls in the holes.

I 100% agree with you!

Back to your last post about the guys muttering about the Z shaft, does that mindset of having a 'super' shaft play a large role with people you give lessons to? Or maybe a better question would be how do you feel the confidence of your opponents seem when they have a 'super' shaft at the end of their cue?

I actually don't own a spliced 'low' deflection/'super' shaft right now- but I did order a new shaft for my viking cue, that happens to be an OB-1. Why? I actually like the balance of the cue better with the OB-1 Shaft!

Not really. I don't try to sell them on the shafts I have, unless they inquire about their performance.

FWIW, the power shots I mentioned - I have been shooting those shots for 25-30 years. I have only been using the Z shaft since mid-2005. Prior to that, I was using the original McDermott shafts that I had on my D-21.

I don't really pay attention to that - should I?

:p

I mean I could care less what they are shooting with - their minds need to control their stroke, and they need to to adapt to the playing conditions just like everybody else. You can have the biggest or prettiest gun in the fight - but if you aren't the best gunfighter - that chit don't mean nuttin.

FWIW, I will say this though - Corey Deuel did convince me to go back to shooting with a LePro tip - I notice the difference in tips more than I notice the difference with shafts.

I have recently started using the OB-1 and after shooting with it for just a couple of days, I ran 118 balls in straight pool rather quickly. It is a great shaft, however I am currently taking the Talisman off of it and replacing it with a LePro - after that, I will probably start using it exclusively.

Just remember, I have been playing for 30+ years. For most of that time I was NOT using a low deflection shaft. I never heard of deflection squirt or any of that stuff until I started reading about it on RSB in the mid 1990's.

lol
