Ivory Boxed Cues

No ivory in it but a unique box cue all the same...the only Meucci 97-30 made. Made and signed by Bob, comes with a signed certificate also. As strange as it sounds from a man who collects Szambotis, Showmans and Searings, I spent 7 years tracking this cue down.

I SEE WHY THEY ONLY MADE ONE. I GUESS THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO FLUSH THE BOXES IN.

First Box Cue

Will,

Thanks for sharing this story with the forum. When I first heard the story from you at your house, my thoughts were "wow, now that's what a cue chase story is all about." I love hearing stories like that associated with fine cues...they are sometimes journeys really. My feeling is that these stories more often than not overshadow the cues themselves....and they immensely add to the enjoyment of this crazy hobby we all share !!

BTW, congrats on acquiring the big Gus box cue. IMO that cue is the FINEST CUE to have become available in the open market in over 5 years, and it will certainly fit in nicely with your collection. I'm very happy this one is staying here in the states.

Take care.

Sean

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the kind words. It was fun when you all came over to the house that evening, and we traded stories. As you know, I was pleased beyond words to have gotten that first box cue back in my hands.

Thanks also for the comments about the Szamboti. I really look forward to putting it in with the others, obviously in a place of prominence!

Take care,

Will :) :) :)

Ha, ha!! You are a funny guy Marcus!! The inlays are actually 3 dimensional. They are covered by a clear acryllic window.

Will....if I didn't say....well done on getting the Gus....it is an awesome cue.

A nice ebony/ivory/silver box cue by Bill McDaniel. Very clean work, very high quality, massively underrated for some reason.

I was waitin' for someone to post one of Bill's cues.

I totally agree about the underrated part. What a shame. I think Bill made a tremendous cue. The work was flawless and the playabilty was outstanding.

What a nice guy, too.

Jimmy

DO you have this cue? Because I got one ... and I think oneballeddie has a similar one. Suppose to be exact 'tribute" to a Szamboti cue. I got one by Tim Scruggs as well .. may post photos after I get home.

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for posting pictures of of Ginacue for me. By the way, the second box cue pictures you posted are of my very first box cue. I ordered that one new in 1973 from Bill Stroud (only one like it), and sold it in 1975. I tried to buy it back 2 weeks later and was told it had been left on top of a car when getting in the car, and was gone for good. 31 years later, in March, 2006 I saw it on AZ by someone wanting to sell it. I ended up getting it back last spring. The family of the person who owned the cue lived in the Ohio city where the cue was lost. It is the same one. I have pictures that match the birdseye! This is the cue with the most significant emotional attachment that I have in my collection. Bill Stroud calls it the Prodigal Son, and it will now be with me for the duration.

Because I was told it had been lost and gone forever, I believe it is why I started my Quixote-like quest for box cues, because the one I wanted, I could not have..... but then I got it back. Kind of like being able to re-purchase your first car, etc.

Will

That is an amazing story! Loved it!

My favorite box cue is B. Szamboti's #100 as pictured on Icon's site: iconcue.com.

I Want To Buy The Ed Kelly Cue,,,,,

Sorry, Fatboy, the Kelly Ginacue (first box cue) is nicely tucked in and is very happy in its home. It gets to play often, and is very obedient to its "parent".

Heh, heh, heh...

Fatboy - Your coolest response would be to post that picture of you holding that million in cash and saying, "I repeat. I want to buy that Ed Kelly Ginacue".

Sorry, Fatboy, your money can`t be spent buying the Kelly Ginacue.. It would take too much. You would have to overcome my emotional attachment to it, which has already lapped my logical attachment.
