Ivory Ferrule Substitute

Ivory has long been considered the premier ferrule material, but can you justify putting it in a cheaper cue? If you want to maintain the consistent playability of ivory what ferrule material do you all think would be the best substitute?

Thanks,

If you like ivory who cares if you put it on a cue worth $5? Dont compromise what you like do to cost.

Well, I guess I was just trying to pose a question from a view point everyone else could share. Truth is, I'm a vegetarian because I don't believe in killing animals, and I was wondering what you could generate that same hit (or close) with.

Thanks,

I have built several cues using ELFORYN & am very pleased with it for both playability & looks...JER
P.S. Welcome aboard.

Getting back on track, I am currently using an Aegis ferrule with a Ninja tip. I like the way it plays, but I was wondering if anyone had found a good Ivory substitute. Elforyn has a sorta soft hit like Ivorine 3 and Juma hits almost like natural wood.

Thanks,

Hate to burst your bubble, but any substance you use will involve killing animals in one way or another. The people that work at the factory that produces the substitute have to be fed, and they are not vegetarians. So you might as well just stick with pre-ban Ivory.

I'm assuming, since you know the people that work at the factory well enough to know that they are not vegetarians, that you also know what the substitute is. Fill me in.

Well, if the factory is overseas, and children are working for pennies and eating rice, you could say they are vegetarians by force. Then you could sleep at night knowing children, not animals, are dying to supply ferrules.

In America, 3.2% of the population are vegetarian. Safe to say you have been filled in my friend.

So, hangemhigh, what you are telling me is that you have no interest in aiding in the advancement of cue building and repair, and that your only interest is in derailing me? Perhaps you could share some of your enlightenment and tell me, what helps you sleep at night? Or what is it that you take so you don't have to?

P.S. No I was asking that you fill me in about the substitute, not the statistical percentages of vegetarians in America.

How do you feel about Ivory if we wait until after the animal falls over dead of natural causes ?

proudly wearing my roadkill buckskin vest . . . . .

Look, I understand that everyone doesn't share my viewpoint. My dad thinks I'm crazy. I don't like death at all, but I can't get away from it altogether (unless hangemhigh has some enlightenment on that he'd like to share). The system of this world sucks.

Well, you can learn 2 valuable lessons from this expierence.

1 re: your question - FWIW I have played with ivory ferrules for a few decades, not always, and not exclusively. IMHO, and it is my humble
opinion only, N-O-N-E of the synthetics even vaguely resemble the hit
of an ivory ferrule. Tho many hit plenty good in their own way.
If I understood your question, you were wanting a substitute to put
on a cue intended to sell at a modest price - not one for your own use.
Either way - it ain't out there.

2. Discussing personally held beliefs on a public internet forum that mostly is oriented toward business, hardly ever goes well.

2a. Polite responses usually give a better impression - take a look
at Mike Webb's posts for some fine examples.
