Ivory ferrules

Am I crazy, or is the ivory ferrule causing my cue to play completely different when moving from a table in a warm area of the room to a table next to a window?

I've never really played with ivory in the past. Is it actually that susceptible to environmental changes?

Ivory reacts to environmental conditions . So, does the table cloth.

Yup.

But I would think it's more the table cloth changes and the mass of the ivory more than changes in the ivory.

The heavy ivory ferrules will likely exaggerate the cloth difference I would think.

That's one of the advantages of modern LD shafts, less compensation for a variety of factors, some of which are pretty dynamic such as temperature and humidity.

I do like ivory ferules and play them a lot. Truly the antithesis of LD I think. Gotta compensate. A lot. And it changes.

.

The old road players who used ivory must have been a truly versatile bunch.
The weather will not affect how an ivory ferrule plays to any significant degree.

Weather has a huge effect on how the table plays, especially if the room goes from warm and dry to cool and damp.
